if i had to take 5 cds with me to a deserted island, you better believe this would be one of them. I didn't think anything could be better than the first cd but this is. to bury within the sound is THE indie/emo rock album to come out in 2000 and thats just that.

TO BURY WITHIN THE SOUND,

This review is from: To Bury Within the Sound (Audio CD)
This is Engine Down's first full length follow-up to their EP "Under The Pretense of Present Tense". This new album however, transcends all prior musical releases by this band. In an attempt for personal and artistic growth, these four musicians have pushed themselves not only in their composition, and orchestration, but their development of lyrics and the almost eerie vocal conversations they seem to share. Their use of more classical instruments such as piano and cello, layered on top of the rhythm-driven rock, give a depth to the music not found in most other rock-and-roll bands. This record can make you want to cry one moment and in the next moment, jump out of your seat and dance like mad. Engine Down has found a way to channel every possible human emotion into an audible form. Quite amazing.

This CD is awesome. Retread is the best song in the world. It's also one of those CD's you can listen to from start to finish and never change the track. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

Engine Down's magnum opus?,

This sublime CD is not so much a collection of songs, as it is a haunting journey (think "OK Computer" but substitute the observation and analysis of human emotion for Radiohead's anti-technology fatalism). Lush and dark, brooding and hopeful, with superior subtle use of dynamics and instrumentation, and displaying excellent production, "To Bury Within The Sound" is forty-five minutes and twenty seconds of time VERY well spent.
