strong, sturdy, July 9, 2008
This review is from: Bush Furniture Charlestown TV Stand, Dragonwood Finish (Kitchen)
We got this to hold our 60" LCD. This cabinet took a few hours to put together but it is well worth it. It is very strong and sturdy. It holds all of our AV equipment including our two game consoles and supplies. Bonus- our 15month old daughter is not strong enough to open the doors and yet I can open them with ease

Gotta love it, October 28, 2008

I have horrible memories of poorly made "assembly required" furniture and toys. This is not one of those products.
I went through two other store purchased TV stands that I ended up having to return due to damage only visible once the box was opened. I was pretty worried about having this shipped. But it arrived in great shape.
Assembly is a bit time consuming but not difficult. I took my time and completed the stand in about 1 1/2 hours. The instructions were good and each and every piece of the product has a numbered label attached including each bag of hardware and all of the wood components. The only thing lacking was the amount of wood glue provided for the dowels. Luckily I had some additional glue on hand. Every part was aligned and fit perfectly. No misaligned holes or miscut pieces. Everything fit together snugly without having to force anything. The end result looks pretty close to a furniture store product.
I can't speak for other TV stand manufacturers but I don't see how you can go wrong with a Bush product.

Buyer beware, April 28, 2011
This review is from: Bush Furniture Charlestown TV Stand, Dragonwood Finish (Kitchen)
I need to mention something neither the product reviews nor the product description says: this TV stand is made out of real wood, but only on the doors around the glass. The rest is made out of particleboard.
This was not what we expected, as we called the number the company listed with the product and was assured by the woman we talked to that all of other Bush's things were solid wood, so she "assumed" that this one would be, as well. Granted, we probably shouldn't have gone on her assumption, since we knew that wasn't a guarantee. However, we expected their salespeople to be knowledgeable of their products and clearly she wasn't.
Here's the problem: we were looking specifically for a solid wood stand, as we know veneers can peel and chip off. We were very disappointed to discover that most of this was made out of particleboard upon receiving it. We debated sending it back, but how in the world do you ship something like this back? The cost alone isn't really justifiable. Backed into a corner as we were, we decided to give it a shot.
The first thing we noticed upon opening the package was that, sure enough, one of the pieces had a squiggly crack in the veneer. Luckily it was a bottom piece that you don't see, so we decided to ignore it and keep working, as we weren't sure how long a replacement part would take to be mailed. Then, upon trying to remove one of the stickers from the stand that marked what a piece was, a big slice of veneer peeled off from one of the sides of the stand. The tag had to come off, as it was on an outside side and was bright white, which would have looked very obvious if we left it on. This was extremely disappointing and frustrating after three hours of work, which is how long it took us to put it together.
The instruction booklet contains just pictures, no words, which made things a bit tricky sometimes. It was hard to tell the way things went occasionally. We eventually got it put together, and it does look nice except for that slice of veneer on the side that is now missing. I guess our next step is to contact the company for a replacement part, take it all apart, put it back together, which is going to be terrible considering all the little nails that had to be pounded into the back. We might try to find something to repair it, as I don't know if taking it apart is even an option. We're not really sure right now.
Honestly, for the money I really expected a better product that wasn't crap veneer and particleboard. Buyer beware.
