Amazon.com Review

Simple, classic design meets modern functionality in Bush Furniture's Weston entertainment collection. This corner video base accommodates most 36-inch conventional TVs (up to 240 pounds) and most 42-inch flat-panel TVs (up to 100 pounds) on a raised top platform. Below, a framed tempered-glass door opens to the components compartment with one adjustable shelf and a back cutout for cords and wires. Six faux-leather baskets flank the sides for tidy--and stylish--media storage. Finished in satiny black with tapered feet and a silver-toned round door pull, this video base is casual yet crisp, making it very welcoming in a living room, den, or bedroom. It can also be combined with the matching hutch (sold separately). The base measures 51-3/4 inches wide by 23-3/8 inches deep by 24 inches high and has been tested for tip-free safety. Assembly is required, and instructions and a toll-free customer help line are included. Six-year warranty. --Kara Karll

5.0 out of 5 stars TV Cabinet, October 17, 2007

This thing is really heavy--but very sturdy. Assembly instructions were good and it looks nice. The description says it fits a 42" flat screen, but my 46" Samsung fits on it with room to spare.

But it is let down by a few simple things.

Assembly takes a couple of hours. The instructions are easy to follow.

There is a rail along the top front which I think is designed to stop you from putting very heavy CRT TVs close to the front and having the whole thing tip over (this is my guess - nowhere do they tell you what it actually is). The rail is flimsy, and the instructions have you tap dowels into it with a hammer. The bottoms of the dowel holes are paper thin, and if you use a hammer, the dowels bust right through. I destroyed mine...

...but there is a happy ending, because there is another flaw. The six drawers have no back stops, and as a consequence they disappear a few inches into their slots, which looks odd. I cut the rail in half and screwed it to the back of the drawer shelves to stop them from sliding all the way inside.

I have an LCD flatscreen with a stand which keeps it well back from the front anyway, so in my case the rail is completely unnecessary. The LCD is also much lighter than a CRT TV, and at 50lbs, way below the rated 117lbs flat screen capacity (240lbs CRT), and it has a rear safety strap which prevents it from tipping. I filled the dowel holes in the top with black filler.

I had no problem wiring up my equipment through the wiring holes, but the cabinet ventilation may be inadequate for modern audio/video equipment such as DVRs and media PCs. The temperature of my hard drives increased by about 5C. Improving the ventilation looks like an easy DIY project, but it should be better in the first place.

The drawers are only just high enough for DVDs in conventional cases to stand on their sides. About a third of my DVDs are taller, and I had to either lean them or stack them flat.

The packing polystyrene was stuck to the side of the drawers. I found that a dry, non-scratch pan scrubber was the quickest way to remove it.

Overall I'm very pleased with this piece of furniture. It is good-looking, fits nicely in the corner, has an optional Bush Furniture Weston Corner TV Hutch, and hides all my audio/video cables. I hope my experience helps others get the most out of it. And maybe Bush will tweak it to make it a five star piece of furniture.

4.0 out of 5 stars solid, December 14, 2007

This is a solid and reasonably well-made piece of assemble-it-yourself furniture. The box was *heavy*; I live on the third floor, and for a while it looked like my delivery man wouldn't be able to get it up to me. If you're going to be moving yourself at any point in the near future, you might think twice. On the upside, it's heavy because it's sturdy.

The closed back style makes it a bit tricky to hook your componants up to each other and the tv, but also does a better job at hiding the cords in the darkness than our old open-back cart did. The bevelled glass door sometimes gets in the way of a remote signal, or makes the display on the lower shelf's componant hard to read, but you could easily remove it if that was an issue for you.

Overall, I'm pleased with how it looks and functions, I just wish it weren't so heavy.
