Great Memories, August 3, 2011
This review is from: Bushido: Role Playing Adventure in Samurai Japan (Paperback)
I used to play this game with a couple friends of mine way, way back in our highschool days. That was 20yrs or more! Still remember the game vividly! The honor system was great, it really put a strong focus on roleplaying. Players are penalized for dishonorable behavior and rewarded for honorable deeds, just as much as traditional RPG's reward Hack'n Slash. The action was great. When you are starting out, everything is tremendously dangerous. After mastering a few combats skills though, you can easily cut your way through mobs like they do in the samarai movies. I'd say this game was one of the first to push us toward storytelling vs. mayhem in our RPG's. It's a smart, easy to use system that anyone who loves Japanese culture will enjoy. However, a basic background in Japanese culture and history, or at least an appreciation of same is important
