4.0 out of 5 stars Could be 5 stars - Works wearing eyeglasses., August 30, 2010

This review is from: Bushnell Elite E2 8 x 42 Binocular (Electronics)
Not having any experience with binoculars to speak of, or another fairly expensive pair to compare these against, these may actually be 5 star binoculars in this price range. Anyway some descriptions state that the eyepieces are rollup to allow for different eyeglasses. I took rollup to mean you bend the rubber cups up or down, actually they twist up, counter clockwise to move each lens further away and clockwise to make them flush with the unit. Each lens moves as one piece while the rubber eyecup stays as it is.

I bought these for my wife to view a football game without having to take off her pretty high prescription(correction) glasses every time she wanted to see something. Now the theory was that the closer the eyes were to the binoculars the better, so the adjustable eyepieces were closed completly and held up against her glasses after the adjustments for the distance between her eyes and the diopter setting were made. This resulted in black spots where she could not see anything where as I could see everything. Moving the adjustable eyepieces out to their maximun distance from the binoculars resulted in her seeing everything and my seeing double images.

But my prescription strength is way less than hers and these were just for her to use. Any set of binoculars would have had the same result. I like the fact that the diopter setting can be locked in place, even the focus knob can be locked in place. Both adjust by simply pulling them out toward the eyepieces or pushing them in toward the front to lock them in place.

Once we found the combination that worked for her, she could see crystal clear images while wearing her glasses and is very happy with them. I also can see clearly when I change her settings while wearing my glasses. The neck strap for when you are using them is padded, wide and very comfortable. The case is nice and comes with a carrying strap. Lens covers are included for both the front and back . The front ones are attached to the bincculars with rubber rings which you could easily remove if you wanted. All in all a high quality product. There was a little plastic bag with some extra pieces and I still have not figured out what those are for as the instruction booklet does not mention them.
