5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible value for birders, astronomers, etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well Designed, Poor Optics
Very convenient to use, nice focusing, rubber eye cups, but you get what you pay for. Binocular users don't usually realize what they're missing until they check out Nikon or Minolta binocs. The images focus into crystal clarity but the price is close to a hundred or more bucks. But it's like a digital camera. It doesn't matter what the features are if the images are...

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible value for birders, astronomers, etc., November 8, 2000

I am an avid birder as well as a star-lover. These binoculars are incredible! I have them on my table at all times to watch birds with, and they go with me on any hike or camping trip I take.

The initial setup is super-easy, and once you do that, they are some of the best I've used for tracking down and focusing on a moving object. A quick finger-toggle slides the focus for you without losing track of what you're looking at. I've in fact bought many sets of these binoculars for friends and family as gifts because they were so useful for me, and now I have a wide following addicted to these binoculars.

The image of course is fantastic, well lit and good sized!

If you have any sort of interest in nature, astronomy, sports, or just about anything else which involves viewing objects at a distance, these are definitely the binoculars to try. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is what is meant by the term - User Friendly!, June 26, 2000

These binoculars are the easiest to use of any I have ever tried. The initial setting directions are simple to follow and then you can instantly change the focus from far to near with finger tip ease. We live on a lake and use them for bird watching. I can focus on a bird at our feeder and then watch it flying all the way to its nest. I just touch the instant focus feature with my finger and do not have to take my eyes off it. I can watch a bird across the lake with the same ease. You do not feel like you need an engineering degree to be able to use these binoculars to their fullest potential. What a concept! Something that is easy to use and does what it's supposed to do at an affordable price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for astronomy, July 10, 2002

I purchased my 10x50 Powerview binoculars ... after using a pair similar to these (Bushnell Permafocus 10x50). I liked the quality of the Permafocus, but not the price or the lack of focusing adjustment...you'll need it eventhough the are "perma-focused", so I decided to buy the Powerview. I'm glad I did because they are built better, have a slightly better case, and you can see objects that are closer, something that the Permafocus is not capable of. Initialy, Bushnell was not my first choice, but after research, they were my only choice. Buy these binoculars for the quality, price, lifetime warrenty, and ease of use. One thing to keep in mind about high power binoculars, you may want to think about getting a tripod and adapter (I made one out of a piece of angle-iron) if you want to see a steady image. Lastly, if you are just getting into astronomy and can't decide weather to get a higher power than the 10x50's, I'd say start with the 10x50's for the field of view and the more stedy image, and then if you still want more power get the bigger ones (Bushnell 16x50 Powerview are available at Target for around not much more than these 10x50's are priced at...worth checking out).

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Overlooked Telescope, December 17, 2000
This review is from: Bushnell PowerView 10x50 Wide Angle Binocular (Electronics)
I totally agree with Amazon, this may be the most "overlooked telescope" and probably the best value. When I was a teenager and avid astronomy buff, I started out with binoculars. It's a great way to get started and to test if this is a passing fad. Once I got hooked, I bought a telescope. The binoculars were still handy to have for other uses as well.

If you are an amateur astronomer just starting out the best way to introduce yourself to the stars and planets is with a pair of high-power binoculars. They are more affordable than a basic refractor telescope which you probably won't like anyway. A good pair of binoculars will allow you to see the details of the moon, the Orion Nebula and the Pleaides star cluster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best fifty bucks I have ever spent in my life......, July 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bushnell PowerView 10x50 Wide Angle Binocular (Electronics)
I bought these based on the reviews I read here...my hat's off to all of you....

I just picked up the hobby of astronomy, and taking the advice of the literature I have read, I bought a pair of "cheap" 10x50 binoculars to learn the skies first.

I must say that the only thing "cheap" about these wonderful binoculars are the price. The moon, Mars, Orion Nebula come in crisp and sharp. And the price cannot be beat...

I fully intend on purchasing a large telescope in the near future, but I will ALWAYS have these around to take a "quick" look before I venture out with the telescope.

Best $50 I have EVER spent....period

Very convenient to use, nice focusing, rubber eye cups, but you get what you pay for. Binocular users don't usually realize what they're missing until they check out Nikon or Minolta binocs. The images focus into crystal clarity but the price is close to a hundred or more bucks. But it's like a digital camera. It doesn't matter what the features are if the images are crappy.

The lenses in these binocs have rings around the inner perimeter that are always out of focus. The center image is pretty good until you compare it with better binoculars, then there are more colors, a brighter image and, of course, consequently, greater viewing pleasure.

Also, like most lens caps on binoculars, the lens caps on these should be discarded with the plastic wrap and box. They fall off with gravity and you'll soon lose them anyway.

This one's a good model for kids. For yourself, use your tax cut and buy a more expensive model. If you're going to walk 12 miles into the woods, you deserve to have primo optics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Have used these just once and already I'm impressed!, September 25, 2001
By
This review is from: Bushnell PowerView 10x50 Wide Angle Binocular (Electronics)
My dad and I have both become amateur astronomers in the past couple of months. At first, all we would do is just identify various constellations through our cheap 7X35 Tasco binoculars. I had been thinking of getting a telescope for a month until I decided that maybe I should get more powerful binoculars since I didn't think I could afford a first rate telescope just yet.

Well I looked all over the place online and I couldn't find a good pair of affordable binoculars(I didn't want to pay anymore than $60 for at least a pair of 7X50 binoculars). I soon stumbled upon this pair of binoculars at amazon.com. All the reviews were glowing for this 10X50 Bushnell Powerview Binoculars. After reading all the reviews, my father and I decided that this was the best.

I just got my new binoculars today and already I could see a SIGNIFICANT improvement over my old pair of binoculars. I can now see stars that I had no idea were even there. The moon looks as clear as ever, and the bright star Vega couldn't look more beautiful. Keep in mind that I only took a look at the sky for about 15 minutes! It was EXTREMELY easy to focus and use, I really can't wait to use this more and more! Only problem I found with it was that it was a bit on the heavy side(a common, albeit small complaint from many of the reviewers here). Another problem is the cheap strap, however the case the binoculars come with is very nice. This really is the BEST pair of binoculars you could ever get(in terms of price and quality).

5.0 out of 5 stars form earth to the heavens, February 27, 2002
By
This review is from: Bushnell PowerView 10x50 Wide Angle Binocular (Electronics)
This one I bought from Amzon.com a year ago for my 7 yr old niece who developed a taste for astronomy. This was a pretty [inexpensive] one and I thought this might be good enough to get her started.
Yaicks! Do u know what I did after the package was delivered. I looked at the moon and even the slightest black spots instantly became unfathomable dark craters. I snached it at once from my niece and kept it from myself ( I bought her one immediately).
If you are interested in birdwatching, ballgames, concerts, hiking or just site seeing - this cetainly is the best thing that money can buy (with the [inexpensive] pricetag on it) - added bonus insa-focus capability - a wonderful invention (Its not just handy, but after using it, u'll say to yourself,"how cloud I ever lived without it?").
If your taste is far from the earth towards the heavens, then you must keep this handy with its wide angle of view and light weight for a quick scanning before setting up your 5,000.00 telescope on mark.
I may sound like a sales agent, but beleive me, I can't say any less about it.
Just buy it! Even if you hate binoculers or have no taste for astronomy.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bushnell PowerView 10x50 Wide Angle Binocular (Electronics)
I bought a binocular many years ago and to my knowledge, it should be heavy and bulky.

I was very surprised when I received this one, very light, not too big, rubber coating makes it feels better. And the image is very bright. If you are looking for a good binocular and don't want to sacrifice the brightness and wide angle, this one should be a very good choice. But it is not good for taveling/hiking, still a little bulky.

For those with old binoculars, perhaps it is time to buy this one as substitute. It will surprise you!
