Decent Rangefinder,

My old Bushnell rangefinder died after a long and useful life. I use it for golf mostly as I have a difficult time judging distance due to losing an eye playing hockey many years ago.
This is a good basic rangefinder that does what they say it does. Point, push and you know how far away whatever is. The unit takes a little practice to use as it is a little lighter than it needs to be but once you get the hang of it it works great. No bells and whistles aside from the rain feature which all Bushnell's have, just distance in yards or meters. I hope this rangefinder gives me the 15 years+ service my old one did.

I like knowing exact distances to the top of the flag from 150 yards and in. I don't care so much if I'm 240 or 260 yards out because it's basically beyond my 3 wood range. I play with guys who carry GPS units and they usually ask me for yardage help because they have three potential yardages- front, middle, and back of the green. Knowing a flag is 71 yards or some other specific yardage is the information I need and this unit gives it to me every time. The only thing a GPS unit adds is a visual of the course/green layout. If you find yourself in lots of hazards perhaps you should consider a GPS presentation. If not this may be just what you need.

I bought this for golf as a less expensive alternate to the more expensive rangefinder. It works, but sometimes needs 3 or 4 attempts to get a reasonable reading. It works better if there is someone on the green to focus on because it seems to have difficulty picking up a reading on a smaller target such as the flag.

Does what it says it does... But I'm not sure that I like it for golf...,

It definitely does what it is supposed to do.
Let me start by saying I'm a young, pretty athletic guy. 36 y/o, can still keep up w the high schoolers on the bball court. I hit over 85% of my free throws in league so I know I've got some decent dexterity. So based on other reviews I figured I'd have no problem pulling yardages to the pin with this thing when it comes to golf. Unfortunately, with distances over 100 yds, it's not strong enough to give me a reading to the pin. If I am over 100 out and there are still people on the green, then yes, I'll aim for the guy pulling his ball out of the cup so I get my range. If the course is empty, then I'm kinda stuck w/out a read when I'm out over 100. Also noticed the performance deteriorates around dusk. Otherwise, at distances under 100 yds it can shoot the pin, especially if the flag is blowing, you can shoot that. My dad has an actual Bushnell designed for golf and it's DEFINITELY able to shoot the pin from as far as 200. Maybe even farther. Needless to say when we golf together, this one stays in my bag.

I got this for 175 with a 50 dollar main in rebate, so for that amount im sure it will be great for the price. Seems good so far, but haven't used it in any practical manner so far so im not the best person to listen to on the quality yet. it used one of the odd batteries like those used in older cameras, the ones that look like a mini version of a C battery, which kinda sucks.
