Product Description

Bushnell Tour v3 Jolt

With its new ergonomic design and its award-winning PinSeeker with JOLT Technology, the Tour V3 JOLT sets the standard for being the complete laser rangefinder package - design, performance and feel.

Pinpoint Accuracy and Consistency

The Tour v3 combines pinpoint accuracy and consistency enabling you to range flags from up to 300 yards (+/- 1 yard) without the use of reflectors or prisms. Powered by a 3-volt battery (included), the compact Tour V3 boasts a 5x magnification and features a rubber armoring and ergonomic design that makes it the easiest to grip LRF on the planet. It also comes with a premium carrying case. The Tour V3 is legal for tournament play and for posting of scores for handicap purposes. Other features include distance readings in both yards and meters and standard SCAN mode, which allows you to pan across the landscape while viewing a continuously updated LCD display of the distances between you and the targets you scan.

PinSeeker Technology

Designed exclusively with the bottom of the cup in mind, this mode allows easy acquisition of the flag without inadvertently capturing background target distances. When more than one object is acquired, the closer of the two objects is shown on the LCD display.

Jolt Technology

JOLT Technology eliminates all doubt by delivering short vibrating bursts to reinforce the laser has locked onto the flag. Use what the Pros use, feel the exact distance. .. FEEL THE JOLT.

How Bushnell Laser Rangefinders Work

Bushnell's laser rangefinders use an invisible, eye-safe Class 1 Laser beam (as classified by the FDA) which is "bounced" off distant objects with the press of a button. Then, the rangefinder's high-speed digital clock measures the time it took for a laser beam to reach a target and return to the unit. Next, using advanced digital electronics, the rangefinder instantly calculates the distance within +/- 1 yard and shows the range in either yards or meters on a through-the-lens LCD Display. The entire process is so fast that less than a second elapses between the time you press the button to generate a laser beam to the time the exact range to your target is displayed.

This was my first purchase of a golf rangefinder, and after a lot of research I decided to buy the V3 without the "slope" capability. (That wasn't worth the extra $100 to me.). It has been tremendous so far. Worked right out of the box with no set-up process or calibration, etc. it operates from a single button to identify the target, and it gives you a slight vibration when it locks on the target. Much faster and more accurate than my GPS system. As a result, I'm more confident that I know the yardage for my shot; it's up to me to execute the shot.

I wanted to wait a few months before I sent in my review - needing time to use it and evaluate it. I must admit, my scores were considerably lower this summer due to this amazing rangefinder. Although this device is rather pricey I feel that it was worth the investment. The build quality is exceptional and I feel this will be in my bag for many years to come. Just point-and-click - it's just that easy. And the supplied battery is still running for 6 months - I play 36-45 holes per week. I'm a 6-handicapper teeing off from both the traditional white and blue tee boxes. It's great for "shooting" yardage to various points on each hole, and it valuable for establishing true yardages on the driving range. Just knowing the "exact" yardage to the hole takes out the guesswork/mistakes in club selection - it's like having your own caddie tracking down yardage for you. I previously used the GolfLogix device and the Swing-by-Swing app on my smart phone - found them too tedious and hard to read (glare from the sun) - needed glasses for the smart phone (over 40 you know), and never received the yardage to the hole - only center/front/back - nice, but not good enough for me.

I purchased a Bushnell v3 in March after many years with a sky caddie. I play 3-4 times per week in Georgia, liked my sky caddie, but love the v3 rangefinder which allows shooting essentially any visible object. But, in three months, I have had to change the battery twice including this morning which basically means the battery life is 1-2 months. I am not happy with the battery life and therefore the 4 star rating. Maybe I will turn off the jolt technology which vibrates when the device reads multiple objects but displays the closest one.

The good news is that when it works, it works well. Distance is spot on. However, it stopped working after only three months (worked fine one hole, then stopped the next), and trying to get it fixed will leave a sour taste in your mouth. First, you have to pay to ship it to Bushnell. Not totally unexpected, but for something this expensive that didn't last very long...yuck. But then, they charge you $10 so they can ship it back to you. That's just wrong. In the course of trying to diagnose the problem, I took the battery out to check it. Battery was fine, but to open the battery door there's a flimsy piece of plastic that just snaps off. Looks like metal, but it isn't. That's just a really cheap design decision, which makes you wonder about what other cheap design decisions went into the thing, and the fact that it stops working out of the blue starts to make more sense. Then you find out it'll take at least a month before you get it returned to you, and they send you a postcard that has the repair number on it so you can finally get the repair status. A postcard? Really? So, what feels like a cheap design coupled with a sub-standard repair experience, and I'll never get anything from Bushnell again. If I had to do it all over again, I would have purchased a different brand.

UPDATE: Finally got the postcard that indicates the repair number. The status is "prepared to ship". However, it's been that for the last 4 business days. Here I thought "prepare to ship" meant it was waiting for a box and a label. Must be more complicated than that. Maybe they have to make the boxes by hand... Groan...

2nd UPDATE: Another year gone, another trip to the repair shop. The range finder worked fine one day, then stopped the next.

I had a Skycaddie GPS unit. I was always looking for a distance to some object on the (or adjacent to) the fairway. Could never get this with my GPS unit because it didn't show on the screen. Had to estimate the position and hope that I was right, especially if it was a carry over water or hazard. A friend that is a scratch golfer suggested a laser range finder. I had one in the past but found it not too helpful with getting an accurate reading to the flag as other objects behind the green would read as well. With the V3 pinseeker technology, locking onto the flag is not a problem.

With this ability to read the flag and the ability to measure any object on the course, I now have much more confidence in playing a particular shot. Even more important, I can now decide to not try a shot beyond my capability.

Also, no subscription fee nor courses to download.

Much better than my very old laser range finder. My hands aren't as steady in my older age and this tool grabs the flag despite that. I can get readings out to 200 yards with no problem. I use a GPS as well but the V3 is used the most.
