4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Golf
I used a friend's today on the golf course and it worked well. Contrary to one other review on this site, it works fine from 200 yards. Easy to use and much better than many others I have tried on the golf course. I was sold the first time I used it. It is very accurate as well. Great product for a reasonable price. The size and weight are just right for the golf...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good for golf
I purchased the Yardage Pro 450 Laser Rangefinder for use when playing golf. After trying it for a couple of rounds it clearly isn't suitable for the golfer. I believe it was originally intended for hunting. Essentially the device picks up background objects such as trees when trying to locate the flag/pin and you have to have super steady hands to focus on the objects...

For what this item is and for what it does, it's just fine. I use it when working as a Stereographer to determine the distances of fairly close objects that are just a bit too distant to tape measure.

One thing, though: The word "clam" in the description does NOT refer to the unit's color. The unit is NOT green like the one depicted in the illustration. It is a black unit. The word "clam" in the item description refers to the annoying clear plastic "clam-shell" packaging the rangefinder is contained within.

BTW, do not buy the extra case. You get a free case with the unit.

The strap that comes with the rangefinder is useless. There are no directions on how to attach it and there is no obviously logical way to determine how to do so. Fortunately, I had a different strap from a recent convention badge that worked beautifully.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bushnell Range Finder, July 12, 2010

I ordered this product to measure distances between utility poles. We typically measure these distances with a "Wheel". However, the poles were not on level paved ground rather they were set across country over hills and valleys. The Range Finders proved to be a time saving and accurate tool. We will continue to use these as our measuring tool for all future jobs.

I orderd the product to be delivered overnight and I received them (3) the next day.

I am on a fixed income and bought because of the price. For my purposes (archery) it works fine but for the people looking at the longer yardages don't buy this unit but out to around 200 yards or less it is fine.

The Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 seems to be well made and not too heavy, nor too light. For my own purposes, it will work just fine. I will be using it to measure straight line distances across a series of "sinkholes" in Citrus County, FL. For the purposes of the study, I need to known the widths of these geologic features. It is unreasonable to drag a long tape across one of these often deep depressions ... the tape "sag" would be too great ... and it would also require me to trample a lot of native vegetation, of which many plants are quite rare or endangered. What will be done is to sight from the edge of the sinkhole to a tree on the other side. Accuracy in not that important ... so, distance with an accuracy of 1-2 yards is just fine. I will do a calibration before going out: tamping off a number of posts, poles trees, etc. on my street where I have a clear view ... and noting how much the device gives a reading that varies from the true taped distance. This rangefinder is probably just fine for hunters ... however, golfers would probably do best to just play golf and learn how to estimate distances ... there is no way that most folks could hold any rangefinder steady enough on a flag/pin to get the acurracy they need. Besides, it is not sporting ... unless you just want to learn how to use your various clubs and assess the force of your swing that you might need. PS ... I paid $115 for mine, including shipping .. so, look around. it was sold by a vendor associated with Amazon ... I love Amazon!

I bought mine for HUNTING. As an avid varmint hunter, I range many items with mine, Is very accurate, fast, and with 9volt battery lasting over a year and still tested strong i cant find anything to complain about! I use mine Very often being the founder of a hunting club, I hunt alot for coyote in Utah. Says 450, but i have ranged MANY item at 500 and up to 650 yds consistently! Am Looking to purchase another one soon, but with longer range! Well worth the money, very durable in all weather conditions!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad for the price., March 5, 2011
This review is from: Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 Laser Rangefinder (Sports)
I have had to edit my review 3 times after using this range finder in various conditions on different size objects over the last month so this a total re-edited review. I knew I wasn't paying a lot for this range finder but thought it would perform better than it does but this my first rangefinder. Maybe I was expecting too much. I fear it is just about worthless for anything over a 200 yards on any deer like animal and that would be a stretch but I have not had a chance to try it on a large elk yet but my expectations aren't too high for much better performance. I think it may be ok to 200 yards and even then conditions have to be perfect to get a range reading. Maybe if you can find your deer standing 100+ yards beside a good size tree you may be able to range the tree and therefore get a shooting range out of it but bet it won't even range the tree much more than 250 yards. Sometimes it does suprise me on the range readings it will take ( nothing over 300 on a soft target ) and other times it won't range a reading on something close ( 200 yards ) or it will take a reading one time and then show no yardage on the next reading 2 seconds later. I can't figure it out and can't depend on its performance at all over 200 yards. If you want to range buildings or really large objects out to 200+ yards but nothing beyond 300 yards you will probably like this range finder. I have never had it range anything including large buildings over 300 yards. A tip I did find out and maybe all rangefinders work this way was that I wasn't holding the button down long enough when ranging objects at long distance targets and it works pretty well if I do that.

I hardly ever have to give a poor review on a product as am pretty easy to please. If I wanted better I should have been willing to pay bigger bucks.

I returned the device and purchased the more expensive Bushnell model with pinseeker technology and that one works great for my needs.

Not very effective for golf. Difficult to pick up the flag on the green, especially with trees in the background.
