This review is from: Bushy Run Battlefield (Pennsylvania Trail of History Guides) (Paperback)
"Bushy Run Battlefield" is a brief but very good guide to this 1763 battle that took place in western Pennsylvania. The battle was part of a larger conflict between Native Americans and colonial America often called "Pontiac's Rebellion" or "Pontiac's Uprising;" it began as a siege led by an Ottawa chief named Pontiac at Fort Detroit. Soon the assaults spread to other forts and towns, including Fort Pitt (modern day Pittsburgh). To meet this threat from the Native Americans, and in an attempt to save Fort Pitt, several English regiments were dispatched from New York, marching through dense forests...never quite knowing when or where the Native Americans might strike...
Although short at only 48 pages, I thought the book did an excellent job in explaining the "backstory" leading up to the battle, in describing the battle itself, and also telling the reader what happened afterwards. Also included are maps, pictures and drawings, all of which give more "flavor" to the book. Highly recommended for anyone interested in colonial/pre-Revolution American history, or in Native American history. Five stars!

This review is from: Bushy Run Battlefield (Pennsylvania Trail of History Guides) (Paperback)
Bushy Run Battlefield: Pennsylvania Trail of History Guide (Pennsylvania Trail of History Guides) Part of the PA Trail of History Guides this volume gives the reader a concise, interesting, easy to read account of this famous battle and the part it played in the French and Indian War conflict. Western Pennsylvania and its development by the Penns and the white settlers set the cultural tone in this region which has lasted to the present day. An impressive and very broad, informative explanation of the Native American influence is given with insight into how difficult and complex it was for these tribes to see the changes sweeping over their homelands. Included are helpful chronologies, illustrations, battle tactics, maps, and source citations. This little book is a welcome and much appreciated addition to some excellent local history guidebooks.
