E-commerce programming fully explained.,
By David Zolzer (Natchitoches, LA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: e-Business and e-Commerce How to Program (Paperback)
This is another excellent example of a Deitel & Deitel book. Following their easy to understand books on Visual Basic and C++, this book provides comprehensive coverage on creating a e-business or e-commerce web site. It is written in a clear and easily understood manner and filled with easy to understand examples. The provides a good understanding of the Internet and e-commerce business models and issues before moving into the technical aspect of creating a site. It provides excellent coverage of HTML, JavaScript/JScript, Dynamic HTML and cascading style sheets, Active Server Pages, and XML. This is an excellent resource for both the practioner and as a textbook in a beginning or advanced web development course. An excellent book!

Great web dev book, and not just for e-commerce,

This review is from: e-Business and e-Commerce How to Program (Paperback)
I was looking for a book that provides a comprehensive overview of various web technologies and how they relate to each other. This book is it. It might be a little pricey, but is well worth the cost considering that you would probably need to buy 4-5 books (especially the Wrox books) to get the same coverage as this book does. The examples are concise and to the point. I especially like the color coding of the HTML examples which makes them so much more readable. If you're a beginner in web development, save yourself some money and buy this book.

A collection of tons of information! Too bad it is put together in such a poor organizational fashion. Difficult to follow from start to finish.
Also, I'm not sure what the deal is with "Shiny" pages, but this text is printed on pages that are so shiny that reading it was a challenge. I had to hold it at just the right angle to prevent intrusive glare. I will be a while before I purchase a book of this type online without checking it out in a book store before hand.

It doesn't come better then this, I purchased this book a week ago and I can not put it down. I am simply amazed at the way this book tackles complex issues in such a simple and straightforward manner. It eases you in so that you fully understand the laws, ethics, asthetics, marketing and solutions to every E-business question ever asked, on top of that it teaches the programming languages of all major languages for the web. Whether you want a profitable business on the web, or just a fantastic site with the most modern abilities, then look no further. This is the ONLY book you'll ever need. The Marketing section alone makes this book worth the money.

Excellent Book,

After reading the excellent Java 2 of Deitel's I had the confidence to trust their HOW TO PROGRAMM XML. There are many good and more poor books around about XML. But this one covers nearly all (which is unimpossible 'cause of daily changes in the technology). I also enjoyed the plenty recources and references. If you want to be on the path of knowledge - go get it. It covers all you need to know around XMLCheers, Frank (Proffession IT-Slave)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: e-Business and e-Commerce How to Program (Paperback)
The book wastes your time talking about what is on the Internet (and what the Internet is - hello, the year is 2005!) instead of teaching you how to program for it. It is not a programming book but an extensive advertisement for off-the-shelf programs and various websites. The CD does not contain the information indicated in the book, nor does the website. I attempted to contact them about this, but received no answer. I have enjoyed other Dietel books, but this one really falls short of their standard. You better know VBscript or JavaScript before attempting to use this text.

Outdated,
This review is from: e-Business and e-Commerce How to Program (Paperback)
The CDs that come with this book don't work with Windows XP or other modern operating systems. The content is outdated and the book should be removed from the shelves!

A good web programming startup text,
This review is from: e-Business and e-Commerce How to Program (Paperback)
I am starting some web programming after about 5 years of system level software development. I find the text, especially the programming related chapters to be comprehensive and well explained for beginners. Obviously, individuals taking up web development professionally will have to refer to more literature concerning their tools and technologies but this is a good startup text. Some rearrangement of sections may be helpful to the readers, for instance, in JavaScript chapters the concept of variables is explained early but a discussion on data types is delayed considerably forcing the readers to make assumptions.

A hodge-podge of dated material,
This review is from: e-Business and e-Commerce How to Program (Paperback)
When this book first came out, though disorganized and overpriced, I thought it one of the Dietels' better efforts since it showed genuine enthusiasm for the subject and a sampling of all of the technologies involved in E-Business programming. But now, it is just a hodge-podge of outdated information that does not give enough detail to be helpful. Instead, if you are a newcomer to the technologies in this book and to web programming in general, you are going to need several books to replace this one book. Take a look at the Listmania entitled "My Favorite Web Development and Design Books" for a place to start. This is an excellent set of books that will get you started. It's a recent list - it was only created in December 2006 - so the books are all up-to-date. The creator of this list is obviously a Wrox Press fan, but that's OK since Wrox prints some great and accessible books on web programming and e-commerce. Go to Google and type in the Listmania name in quotations and it should be the first returned address in the list.
