Tad Crawford Does It Again,
By
This review is from: Business and Legal Forms for Photographers (with CD-ROM) (Business & Legal Forms for Photographers) (Paperback)
Tad Crawford has written a whole series of books out of his expertise in the law and creative arts, with a special focus on photography. I'd suggest looking at Tad's other books, too, since this one is more action-focused without extensive explanations of the whys and wherefores of it.
"Business and Legal Forms" has the documents you'll need, such as Wedding and Portrait contracts, model and property releases, copyright transer forms, publishing contracts and stock photography forms. His descriptions are very helpful. Of greatest practical use, though, is the included CD-ROM containing MS Word documents of all of the forms. If you're just getting started in photography, you need this book!

An Invaluable Resource,

I didn't originally buy this book to "read". I bought it for the invaluable resources inside - the wealth of forms that any photographer needs to protect their work and their business. What makes this book so enticing is you don't have to photocopy, or redesign any of the forms since they're all included on a CD that comes with the book. That being said, I should mention that I was quite surprised at the thorough explanation for each form, and the situations where each form might be needed contained in the book. A person could undoubtedly pay hundreds (probably thousands) in legal fees assembling the information in this book on their own. This book is a photographer's "legal-resource-in-a-book". I highly recommend it.

Great book as a reference tool. Why reinvent what others before us have used? Using actual forms and a CD to personalize, this is a great tool for all photographers.

This book is an excellent resource. It contains descriptions, examples and notes about many common photography documents including Wedding and Portrait contracts, model and property releases, copyright transer forms, publishing contracts and stock photography forms. The descriptions and notes are very helpful AND this book comes with a CD-ROM containing MS Word documents of all of the forms.
This book is a must-have if you're getting started in the business!

So-so book,

This is a great book for general content and advice on how to write a contract. Do not expect to take this book and copy the forms and have them be applicable to your business needs today. If I recall correctly, this book has a copyright date of 2001. At that point in time, there was not a heavy contingency of professional photographers shooting digital. The contracts contained within the book are geared towards film and negatives, and proofing books, which are largely becoming obsolete as digital continues to march ahead.
Furthermore, the included CD-ROM of forms, do not port over to modern versions of Office suite products. I tried opening the forms in Office XP, Office 2007 and Office 2008 for Mac, and the formatting was largely lost. Check boxes were no longer recognized, and borders were lost. I'd recommend the book if you're looking for advice on what to put into a contract, not something that you can open the documents, make some edits, and be ready to go in 30 minutes.

I firmly believe in putting anything that has to do with business in writing. With the forms and checklists in this book I hope to avoid any misunderstandings. I will recommend this book to others.

This is a perfect book for photographers, with sample forms, explanations as to how and when they would be used, and a CD with the same forms that can be customized. Very very useful, and excellent purchase.

Appears to cover all the bases, including contracts, legal assistance, and many more forms than I ever imagined I might need. Very informative.

This title is a great addition to any photographer's library. If I ever need to find a contract or form to use, this book has it. If it doesn't have it, it does have something similar to what I need so I can adjust it to work for me.
Speaking of working for me...the CD included with this title is a God send. It has all the forms from the book in RTF and Word form. This is nice because you can just go add names or make edits as you see fit without having to retype everything on a page. It also explains thing you need for each form if you want to create your own (such as basic guidelines for a consent form). I'd recommend this book to any photographer without an attorney or many years of business/legal experience.
