About the Author

William Pride received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 1972 and is currently professor of marketing at Texas A&M University. His research interests are primarily in the areas of advertising, promotion, and marketing education. His articles appear in a number of academic journals, including Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Academy Market Science, and Journal of Advertising. He and Dr. Ferrell also edited a special issue on "Teaching the Principles of Marketing Course" for the Journal of Marketing Education (volume 26, number 2, August 2004). In addition, Dr. Pride is the very successful lead author of a market-leading Introduction to Business text.

Robert J. Hughes (PhD, University of North Texas) specializes in business administration and college instruction. Currently, he teaches Introduction to Business and Personal Finance both on campus and online for Richland College—one of seven campuses that are part of the Dallas County Community College District. In addition to Business and Foundations of Business, published by Cengage Learning, he has authored college textbooks in personal finance and business mathematics, served as a content consultant for two popular national television series, It's Strictly Business and Dollars & Sense: Personal Finance for the 21st Century, and is the lead author for a business math project utilizing computer-assisted instruction funded by the ALEKS Corporation. He is also active in many academic and professional organizations and has served as a consultant and investment advisor to individuals, businesses, and charitable organizations. Dr. Hughes is the recipient of three different Teaching in Excellence Awards at Richland College. According to Dr. Hughes, after 30 years teaching Introduction to Business, the course is still exciting: "There's nothing quite like the thrill of seeing students succeed, especially in a course like Introduction to Business that provides the foundation for not only academic courses, but also life in the real world."

Jack R. Kapoor (EdD, Northern Illinois University) is Professor of Business and Economics in the Business and Services Division at the College of DuPage, where he has taught since 1969. He previously taught at Illinois Institute of Technology's Stuart School of Management, San Francisco State University's School of World Business, and other colleges. Professor Kapoor was awarded the Business and Services Division's Outstanding Professor Award for 1999-2000. He served as an Assistant National Bank Examiner for the U.S. Treasury Department and as an international trade consultant to Bolting Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Mumbai, India. Dr. Kapoor is known internationally as a coauthor of several textbooks and has served as a content consultant for the popular national television series The Business File: An Introduction to Business and developed two full-length audio courses in business and personal finance. He has been quoted in many national newspapers and magazines, including USA Today, U.S. News & World Report, the Chicago Sun-Times, Crain's Small Business, the Chicago Tribune, and other publications. Dr. Kapoor has traveled around the world and has studied business practices in capitalist, socialist, and communist countries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Text for Business and Management, January 14, 2006
This review is from: Business Library Eighth Edition: Volume of Pride-Business (Hardcover)
I have used this book in my Business classes for several semesters and for both students and instructors, I think it's one of the best books available. The book covers almost all aspects of business in an interesting manner and with extra features like "talking technology", "going global", "examining ethics", "building a business plan", "adapting to change" and case studies. For instructors, it comes with up-to-the-minute videos, (with video cases & quizzzes) power point slides, overhead transparencies, lecture notes, suggestions for class projects, debate/discussion questions etc. The text book web site (HMCO) has a wealth of info and monthly articles that can be used to launch class discussions. Occasionally there are web conferences with one of the authors (mostly for online instructors). The student edition comes with audio CD's to augment the classroom lecture. All in all an excellent book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring, April 27, 2007
This review is from: Business Library Eighth Edition: Volume of Pride-Business (Hardcover)
If you were able to get to this webpage, then you know more about the internet and business than this book will ever teach you. Very outdated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book made the class easier to pass, but had the leftest slant., July 1, 2006

This review is from: Business Library Eighth Edition: Volume of Pride-Business (Hardcover)
I purchased this book for a College Business course. The hardback book looks very nice(almost a black leather look to the front.)
It is very durable. I read all 21 chapters and didn't wear the book or pages at all. Could be used again and again. I purchased it from on Amazon for just under 45.00 and had within 3 or 4 days.
It also came with 4 audio CD's that are very useful. On the CD someone goes over each key point and reviews the chapter. At the end of the chapter are a list of key terms which made an open book test really simple.
The reason I only gave 4 stars is because of the liberal bias thrown around in the book. It seems that every chance they have to give an example, they use some eco company that saves trees or makes organic yogurt..exc.
I passed with a 98/100, and recommend any course that requires this book.
