5.0 out of 5 stars Any Book That Comes with a Disclaimer..., December 19, 2011
This review is from: Business Networking and Sex: Not What You Think (Paperback)
...is going to be a good one. And this book comes with one - right up front. I had to re-read it in order to not raise my blood pressure too much.

This book is a must-read for anyone in business, in entrepreneurship, or in any arena where they must connect to others. With over 12,000 responders to their survey data, they share the data, then viewpoints from both the feminine and masculine perspectives.

Honestly? Some of the data I found consistent with my own beliefs about networking. Some of the data simply made me mad, in that stereotypes can be alive and well in networking, unfortunately (particularly as a single woman). However, this book dares to actually address some of those stereotypes, and how to effectively manage around them to build an amazingly strong network over time.

As an introvert who had to learn about networking the hard way, I'd highly recommend this book to at a minimum understand the business networking dynamics out there, and better yet, to understand how to work around them and become a better networker. Read. This. Book!

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT book with LOTS of data and several INTERESTING INSIGHTS!, December 23, 2011
This review is from: Business Networking and Sex: Not What You Think (Paperback)
Length:: 3:02 Mins

This is a FUN book for business people and especially NETWORKERS! If business networking has anything to with you in your business and success, listen to this one... Your gender DOES MATTER in the HOW TO of networking. Sex...Gender... what ever you want to call it ;-) has a bearing on your conversations and this is a FUN way to learn what those differences are, with real extensive data backing everything up!

I have read A LOT of networking books and whereas this book may not make my MUST READs list, it is certainly worth a few hours of your time to understand the differences between men and woman and the ways we network and what we expect from those activities. Thanks Ivan, Hazel and Frank... THROUGHLY ENJOYED IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars A reference paradox- informative and entertaining!, December 19, 2011
This review is from: Business Networking and Sex: Not What You Think (Paperback)
I was so excited to read this book since at last it would tell the difference of how to network effectively with each gender. The book showed that we both want the same results but that we take a different path. I love the statistical information as well as the entertaining banter. I had some good takeaways that have changed the way I personally network and have brought me better results! Thank you Ivan, Hazel and Frank for putting the time, effort and energy into a fabulous book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Does it generalize? Yes. Is it still relevant? You betcha. This is a must read., December 20, 2011
This review is from: Business Networking and Sex: Not What You Think (Paperback)
My curiosity for what this book could tell me about networking was peeked over a year ago when one of it's authors first started posting about it on Facebook. When I finally got the chance to read it I finished it, laughing hard most of the way through, in just a few hours. This book is a must read if you've ever wondered, bewildered, why networking with the opposite sex can often be just as tricky as being in a relationship with them.

The book doesn't take huge risks with anything beyond the title and is clearly written by three authors over 40 and so does not address at all the marked differences in male-female interaction when networking in a younger vs. older crowd (yes there is a big difference particularly between the sexes). Those two points where a bit disappointing for me which is why it looses a star in my review.

However, the practical application tips and Frank's continued disparagement of his own gender throughout the book make it a worthy read and one of the funniest books I've read all year. I'd highly recommend it, particularly those just beginning their networking journey.

**Disclosure: The opinions expressed here are completely my own. However in the name of transparancy, I am affiliated with BNI and The Referral Institute and so recognize my own bias in reviewing a book written by three people who I know and respect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Business Networking and Sex ( not what you think), December 20, 2011
This review is from: Business Networking and Sex: Not What You Think (Paperback)
Are you making business decisions based on assumptions about the opposite sex that were formed years ago? We all do it from time to time. Business Networking and Sex (not what you think) looks at perceptions through a series of survey questions given to an equal number of men and women. The results may shock you! The humor of the authors makes this book very enjoyable. My recommendation is to read this book before your competition does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, education, AND TRUE!, December 20, 2011

I have had the privilege of knowing all three of the authors and reading numerous books by them. Occasionally when this happens you expect to get good material, but might not expect more than a few nuggets. NOT SO HERE! Not only was I thoroughly entertained by the format, but the straight forward, "pull no punches" info from "both sides of the aisle" was very useful. In fact it has been so useful, I have already been able to increase my networking success with the opposite gender on recent occasions almost immediately.

Frank, Hazel, and Dr. Misner....THANK YOU!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Useful Too!, December 19, 2011
This review is from: Business Networking and Sex: Not What You Think (Paperback)
"Business Networking and Sex" is one of the most fun business books I have read in a long time. The authors have struck a likable combination of information, humor and pratical application.

Ivan Misner, Frank De Raffele and Hazel Walker have created a positive chemistry in this timely book. With 50% of the business world being represented by the other sex, it is important to know how the other half thinks. This book reveals some of the different ways men and women approach business networking, and as a result how they do business.

Do yourself and favor and read the book. It is a fun and useful business networking tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Not Men Vs. Women..., February 10, 2012
This review is from: Business Networking and Sex: Not What You Think (Paperback)
Contrary to what you might think, this book does not pit women and men against each other. Instead think of it as a secret handbook that can help you work, sell and interact better with the opposite sex, or even the same sex! These three authors each bring a unique perspective to the book. Dr. Ivan Misner brings the research "street cred" to the table while Hazel Walker and Frank DeRaffele do a fabulous job giving us the "She said" and "He said" perspectives that drive the various research points home.

It is a rare business book that can make you laugh, but this one does! They say the best humor cuts closest to the bone and several times during the course of reading this book I had to laugh about an experience or situation I, too, had encountered while doing business.

If you only purchase one business book this year, make it "Business Networking and Sex (not what you think)". Not only will you learn a LOT, you'll also have a ready-made conversation starter if you carry it with you to networking events.

Read, Learn, Apply!
