Having read a few other books about writing a business plan I've got something to compare this to and it does not compare well. First off, nowhere in the book is there at least a template or outline for an actual business plan. There is lots of talk about the sections of the plan, but no plan.

Additionally, it regularly tells you that you will learn about such and such in chapter x. However, once you get to chapter x, there is no mention of the previous reference.

If I had to write a business plan from this book, I would never be able to start.

This a very good book for those venturing into the world of entrepreneurship. It has a good grasp on what beginners should know, as well as, details which would be useful to the entrepreneur already in business.

I have to say that this book is very thorough and that I have learned a lot from it. Still, I found the book a little boring and cryptic because of its lack of examples and stories.

There are so many ideas which are thoroughly explained conceptually, but are hard to visualize - although, in fairness, there are a ton of good stories and case-in-points. [See, for example, how your local paper would explain why Pepsi decided to close a bottling plant, or how Microsoft went about improving Windows 7 - now that's something you can relate to.]

Maybe, just maybe, this book is a good refresher for people who did go to business school. I, a high school graduate and avid reader, failed to digest about 35% of the material.

I am a serial entrepreneur, a University lecturer in, Russia, Italy and the USA in Business Economics and International Law and am an international business and peak performance consultant. I have also advised small businesses on creation of business plans to secure additional finance. So my comments on this book are based upon real and theoretical business experience.

There are many mistakes people can make in writing business plans to try and get financing for a business start up and or for an established business. I have seen these mistakes made by everyone from the business owners themselves, to accountants who advise the business. In my opinion, the best business plans include such things as extensive segmented marketing plans focusing on business USP's, 18 month cash flow projections which include tax provision and risk analysis of the marketplace. Its incredible to look back on the amount of businesses I have advised, who have left some or most of these keys out of their Business Plan. This book is designed to get business owners to look at all these key areas and others, so that they themselves can write great business plans.

The book itself totals 400 information packed pages which guide you through the whole process of writing a business plan. The author looks at everything from a self analysis of your business, how to analyse your potential customer base, identify your USP's, identify market trends, create realistic cash flow projections, how to talk to investors and a large amount of other valuable business information you need to write a business plan.

The book is not some theoretical tombe written by academics nor does it give you a template which you simply fill in.

Not having used a business plan for many years I found this book to be easy to refresh my memory as to how to accomplish this task. This is a necessary initial step in business planning and this book made it easy to proceed step-by-step without confusion. I would recommend this to anyone considering a start-up of a new business.
