From the Inside Flap

We are often blameless for misfortune we may suffer in health and family matters, but money is different. Today’s money problems are nearly always the result of wrong decisions we made yesterday. In Business Secrets from the Bible, Rabbi Daniel Lapin reveals the right decisions that his people have so effectively made over centuries.

God’s plan for human economic interaction has always been central to Jewish thought. Now, finally we all can understand it and apply it in our own lives. Business Secrets from the Bible distills forty powerful permanent principles from the vast body of Jewish Biblical wisdom, all of which are essential for increasing revenue in today’s business climate. Rabbi Lapin researched and wrote this book after discovering how few people realize that the Bible contains the keys to increasing income. Business Secrets from the Bible contains all the tips, tools, and techniques you need to create your own opportunities and ride them all the way to the top.

Rabbi Lapin provides the reader of Business Secrets from the Bible with a colossal competitive edge by explaining, among many other insights, why making money is a spiritual activity and why God put us on Earth to do what we do best. But that is just the start. In this book you will not only thrill to timeless truths but you will discover the stunningly simple strategies to put them into practice increasing your earnings. Whether or not you follow the Jewish faith, and regardless of your belief in the Bible, Business Secrets from the Bible will change the way you think about money, and help you make more of it.

From the Back Cover

PRAISE FOR Business Secrets from the Bible

"Rabbi Lapin’s first book, Thou Shall Prosper, is one of the most eye-opening, mind-blowing books I’ve read in the past decade. I’m so excited that he’s now turned that same meticulous biblical lens toward our view of business. I read everything Rabbi Lapin writes!"
—Dave Ramsey, New York Times best-selling author and nationally syndicated radio show host

"Making real money is not what will allow you to do the right things; it is the result of doing those right things in the first place. Rabbi Daniel Lapin teaches what those right things are in this bold and eye-opening book that takes readers through the forty steps of Biblical abundance."
—Glenn Beck, #1 bestselling author of Miracles and Massacres and founder of TheBlaze.com

"No one makes a more passionate, persuasive case than Rabbi Daniel Lapin for applying the timeless wisdom of Scripture to the timely challenges of modern life. This wise, wonderful book helps point the way to productivity and peace of mind for individuals as well as society at large."
—MICHAEL MEDVED, Best-selling author of 5 Big Lies About American Business, speaker, and host of the nationally syndicated Medved Radio Show

Rabbi Lapin has a way of challenging the reader to consider simple truths that are hidden in plain sight.

Some of my favorite examples so far:

My boys and I particularly enjoyed one section where the contributions of Mother Theresa were compared with those of Bill Gates. I won't give away the lessons of that section -I'll let the book do that for you.

The lessons about the negative effects of donations is something I've never heard taught anywhere else, and yet the case is made quite convincingly that "giving" doesn't necessarily benefit the receiver the way so many of us assume it does - actually the effect can be devastating in many cases.

The lessons on specialization vs. general skills was eye opening. I've always been impressed with people who "know a little bit about many things, but aren't necessarily great at any one thing." Lapin makes a strong Biblical case for specialization however in a way that I'd never considered before.

This ISN'T merely a book of common sense. It will likely challenge many of the "common sense" assumptions you have about the "right" way to do business and manage your life and money. The book helped me uncover some bad habits - as well as some habits I was unnecessarily beating myself up over b/c I was unknowingly applying timeless Biblical standards.

Admittedly I've only read the first several chapters of this book, but I had to jump on Amazon and express how excited I am about Lapin's latest even if I don't read another word (trust me - I'm not stopping here). You won't regret grabbing this one - especially if you appreciated his previous book 'Thou Shall Prosper: Ten Commandments for Making Money' (another winner by Lapin).

"Business Secrets From The Bible," this outstanding new book from Rabbi Daniel Lapin, could just have easily been titled "Secrets for a Successful Life." While this new book from Rabbi Lapin focuses on business, these 40 “Secrets” derived from Ancient Jewish Wisdom apply to all aspects of human life. It is neither a book of stock market tips nor financial analysis. It is a book about success in life and business, achieved by compliance with the will of God. Please note that while this book will probably be more meaningful to believers, Rabbi Lapin discusses why it should also be useful and practical for non-believers.

The wisdom in this book is not taught in colleges or business schools. As a retired businessman with an MBA from the University of Chicago and a successful business career, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for advice on how to improve their lot and the lot of their families in the real world.

Each “Secret” is presented in relatively short chapters that can be read on its own; although, the whole book should be read for full context. Each contains fascinating connections between the Bible and the real world that will amaze most readers. The Rabbi’s understanding of the physical sciences and the unique aspects of Hebrew, the Lord’s language, provides meaningful and frequently astounding connections that amazed me. Just two examples: “Secret #13” uses comparisons between Hebrew, English, French, and Spanish to explore the difference between “earning” money and “winning” money. “Secrets” #4 and #12 explore the connectivity required of the 92 naturally occurring elements in the periodic table and God’s message for us to bond, combine, and connect in order “to produce utility and value,” something only humans can do.

I should begin by saying that the ideas presented in this book are useful and life-changing. Rabbi Lapin's previous book, Thou Shall Prosper, is one of the great business books ever written in terms of the ideas that it presents.

That being said, I was disappointed with this book in that there were no new conceptual ideas presented that you would not have already known from reading Thou Shall Prosper. The author was able to find additional biblical references to back up the ideas that he presented in the earlier book and parsed the ideas even further to create additional chapters, but the truth is, I did not get anything new from this book in particular. I give 5 stars for the content itself, but take away a star for lack of new ideas from the previous book.

My recommendation: you MUST read Thou Shall Prosper, but save your time by skipping this one.

I saw the Author on TV and was impressed. He is obviously very sharp, well educated and well intentioned. I am a Christian and certainly not as well read as the Author, but, I found the links back to the Bible and the conclusions drawn, to be weak and lacking. That was a disappointment to me. It could just be me. I can't argue with even one of his 40 secrets. I don't think they are secrets, Napoleon Hill, Og Mandino et al have been teaching these secrets for years. And the one exception to that would be the Author teaches in this book that money is spiritual. In brief, his explanation is that God wants us to make money, work six days a week and that is how the world becomes better. I struggled with this book more than any in a long time. Not because of the advice, which is very wise and acceptable, but with the connection to the Bible. Just me ...
