Book Description

June 1, 2003 0314143564 978-0314143563
This short book was written for students taking the first course in business organizations. Obviously, different law schools have different names for the course-"business associations," "business enterprises," "business organizations," "business structures," "corporations." And the differences in your students' background and interest in this course are even more obvious. It will soon be obvious to some of your students that they need the help of a basic student text. There are a number of good law-school books on corporations. Business Structures in a Nutshell has significantly fewer pages than other student texts but not less explanation. Professors Shade and Epstein emphasize explanation. Their objective is to have students say, "Now I understand that."

More specifically, the authors focus on (1) explaining the basic concepts that you have covered in class, (2) providing a business and practice context for those concepts, and (3) showing how the concepts are consistent (and sometimes inconsistent) with each other. Their book is organized around the life cycle of business-beginning with the choice of the form of business structure, ending with the choices of possible "end-games" for the business and its owners, and covering the common legal issues in running and growing a business. Business Structures in a Nutshell can help your students, whether they’ve come to your first class as poets or accountants.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little nut of knowledge, March 29, 2007
I bought this book to help me get through Business Associations/Organizations in law school. I found it to be an easy read and very helpful in explaining nuanced business concepts. However, if your business course is like mine, you will spend the bulk of your time on Corporations. To that end I would suggest purchasing the Nutshell's Corporations book as a companion to Nutshell's Business Associations. Best of luck in your business legal studies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Study Aid, January 5, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These Nutshells, in my opinion are one of the top two study aids on the market. This book will help you learn the broad concepts that the class is about before you have the actual class and begin the readings from the case book. Also, most of them aren't very long, so it makes a super refresher book before really starting to study for finals. Naturally, with free shipping, I think AMAZON is the best place to purchase them.

5.0 out of 5 stars really helpful, September 3, 2006

I took Intro to Business Associations and this book was very helpful. It is short enough that reading the whole thing is not a task, yet long enough to be helpful. It provided many clear examples and was easy to understand. A.
