5.0 out of 5 stars New way to enjoy business travel!, July 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Business Traveler's Guide to Fly Fishing the Western States (Paperback)
In 1998, 44 million people traveled for business. The average trip lasted 2.5 days. There is no question. Most of these travelers can use a break.

In a new fly fishing guidebook, a seasoned road warrior reveals where travelers can easily find fly fishing within a two hour drive from every major airport in thirteen western states.

Now, with this guidebook, when you are traveling on business (or for some other reason) you can sneak away and turn drudgery into a fun fly fishing outing. Bob Zeller tells you how to pack, what to tell the boss, and how to change your attitude.

"After enough business travel all cities seem the same. I felt the same way several years ago. But not now. I've turned this gloom into an opportunity that most only dream of. Now I look forward to my business trip because I'm going fly fishing!"

The large 8 1/2" X 11" format has lots of detailed, two color maps that show how to get from the airport, where to go and where to fish. Bob says, travel light.

"Fly fishers are obsessed with bugs. When you travel and fly fish you should be interested in what might be hatching locally, but don't try to over-think the problem. Check this guide and ask anyone you meet what might be hatching and then don't worry."

Bob's Four Keys and Credo for the business traveling fly angler set the tone.

Schedule Well: An hour or two drive still leaves two or three hours of fly fishing. That's plenty of time to clear your head and make the trip worthwhile.

Save The Company Money: Rent a car with unlimited miles so extra driving doesn't cost anything. Stay and eat near fishing spots out in the boonies. They are usually cheaper.

Fly Fish for Fun: Fly fishing while on business is not about how many or the size of the fish you catch, but the joy of the experience.

Fly Fish to Stay Fresh: Among my colleagues there are cases of too much drinking in an attempt to avoid the loneliness of the high-rise hotels. There is also the clandestine "dinner date" to avoid eating alone. This has led to even bigger problems.

The Credo: There are many types of fly fishers. Some troll the bars of the high-rise hotels where they catch things they don't want and can't throw back. A traveling man's or woman's credo should be, "Don't bring anything home that you didn't take with you."

With good natured, to-the-point facts, Bob's 30 years of fly fishing-while-on-the-road are your guide to exploring the great outdoors, not just a hotel lobby or airport lounge.
