It's A Hit-And-Miss Book, February 25, 2009
This review is from: Business (Hardcover)
I'll preface this review by saying I needed this book for a class, this isn't the type of book I'd normally buy.
The book itself has many great diagrams to speak of, has some good chapters I think everyone should know about, but overall has a major problem: fluff.
Fluff is what journalists like to call text that is considered "filler" in order to get a certain word count. This book is full of it; Chapter 6 is just one big chapter of fluff.
Is that bad? Well, it makes for some pretty boring and meaningless reading. Here's an actual quote on business management:
"Management functions such as those just described do not occur according to some rigid, preset timetable. Managers do not plan in January, organize in February, lead and motivate in March, and control in April.."
Gee, are you sure? Businesses don't base their agendas according to what month it is? Thanks for taking me back to third grade, you just listed a third of all of the months in an entire year.
What I do love about this book is the case studies. You'll get to hear about all kinds of success stories- I love reading them. But this too is flawed at some points. There will be instances you'll be reading a paragraph, and the author will quickly mention a person or thing, and never say a word about them again.
In a section on teen entrepreneurs:
"Some ultimately quit school, whereas others quit or cut back on their business activities. Melissa Sconyers, a web designer, chose to shrink her workload"
Who? Melissa Sconyers? Why am I reading a sentence about her with no follow up about her situation? All we know is that she shrunk her workload. Congratulations Miss Sconyers, maybe I'll Google you and learn more than one sentence about you.
Overall I would not buy this book had it not been for a class. I have bought a business book in the past and was satisfied with it, certainly much more so than this one. If you like pretty diagrams, fluff, and looking at pictures- this book is for you. Otherwise steer clear.

Don't Order From This Seller, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Business (Hardcover)
I actually rate this seller NO star at all and I wouldn't advise others to buy from this company. I never received my book and payed an additional fee for expedited shipping. When I emailed to question the status of my order, they did respond and provide a tracking number. In the response, they stated that "it was a mystery" as to what happened to my book, and assured me it was the Post Office's fault. I requested a refund and they said they would happily do so. When I asked how to get my refund they never responded. My classes began and here I was without a book and also had lost my money. I would not recommend this seller, but if you choose to buy anyways, do so at your own risk!

This review is from: Business (Hardcover)
I bought this book from a friend of mine a month ago. Soon ,I realized that I've paid almost 5 times more that I actually paid for this one. Having the opportunity to buy it at such a low price it's really great. I also received the book so fast that i couldn't believe it!!! Great job...whoever took care of this!!!
