5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Product!
Very, very easy to install. I was able to install the product on two laptops in under 4 minutes flat with no issues. Works great with both ME and Win98. I have had the product now for over a week and it's been great. It doesn't like to be attached to an expansion port however(it hangs on the shutdown process). I would suggest a direct connection.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works great... Until the warenty runs out
This product worked perfectly until the very day the warenty ran out. After that it stoped working all togather. I was on the phone with tech support (long distance) for an hour before i was informed that i will have to send the hard drive back to them to have it repaired (shipping and repairs both at my expence). 130 bucks may seem like a good deal but after all...

BUSlink is FANTASTIC!! I bought a BUSlink drive and accidently saved some corrupt files that destroyed my drive. Tech support went above and beyond and not only saved my existing drives, but stored it in brand new drive at no Cost!!!! I'm definitely a customer for life, and the drive is running smoothly with no problems, it's the most positive customer experience I've ever had, Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for "On the go", November 29, 2001
This review is from: Buslink L40 40 GB External USB Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I have had no problems at all with my Buslink! I am in the service and take it to the ship with me quite frequently. It is rugged, and durable enough to withstand the topsy turvy life at sea and the evils of baggage handlers. I have had excellent performance and am extreamly happy!

Not to mention all of the information that was on the hard drive is now lost.

4.0 out of 5 stars Archiving Drive, October 10, 2002
By

This review is from: Buslink L40 40 GB External USB Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I would give this product 5 stars, but it's a bit too slow for that. My 60GB drive was easy to install (less than 5 minutes). It's great for archiving data. I wouldn't recommend it for people needing to transfer large files (300mb or more) from one computer to another on a regular basis. This is a slow drive (USB 1, 5400rpm). It takes about 10 minutes to transfer a 700mb video file from my internal drive onto it. (Smaller file sizes seem to trasnfer more quickly.) However, this is a great low cost option for those, like myself, with large video and audio libraries to archive. It takes a while to move all your files onto it, but once moved you don't lose anything in the way of video or audio playback. So, for the low cost you are sacrificing speed, but you are getting a lot of archive space. If you want faster, you should try USB 2 or Firewire.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Buslink L40 40 GB External USB Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I purchased the L40-40gb BUSLink about 2 weeks ago and I must say that I'm 100% satisfied. Installation was a snap like a couple of the reviewers said previously. Plug-in the drive to an open USB port and wait for the CD-ROM driver request. You don't even have to turn your PC off to get this product installed in Windows 2000 Professional.

I combined this drive with the Linksys USB 4-Port Hub for spare USB ports and the installation was simple with that as well. Being a grizzled vet from the old days of PC Upgrades, I was surprised at the ease for both pieces of hardware.

The speed of file transfers is quite adaquate. I don't recommend dragging HUGE quantities at a time to the drive because the speed will slow considerably, but I was able to transfer 600mb movies and files within a couple minutes. So consider small as better.

As for drive letters, the install put everything at the end of my drive letters, but you can always change your drive letter order by using the drive properties within Windows, consult a Windwos/upgrade website for technical help.

If you have a little patience, extra USB spots and a craving for more space, this could be your deal of the century. Best of luck.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable, March 11, 2002

This drive is very unreliable. Backing up (copying) small number of files works ok; however when trying to copy large number of files, Windows 2000 starts to report I/O errors. When this happens the drive light stays on continuously and the drive does not respond any longer.
I will send it back and try to come up with some other back-up mechanism.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buslink USB drives are NOT compatable with Mac OS X, May 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Buslink L40 40 GB External USB Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
Please do not buy this device if you want to run it under Mac OS X - although it will work under Mac OS 8/9, support for OS X is "not planned" according to their service representatives.

2.0 out of 5 stars Communication Problems, May 16, 2002

This review is from: Buslink L40 40 GB External USB Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I have had this drive for approximately 1.5 years and have kept various versions of the drivers. With some of the older drivers, I can get almost functional data backup, but with the most recent driver, I almost always lock up the drive after backing up 250 mBytes of data or so.

My advice is to search for another product or try the Firewire product. I do not have experience with it, but after all the time I have spent attempting to get this drive to work reliably, I am sorry that I bought it. --- GOOD IDEA, BAD IMPLEMENTATION.

Thanks

4.0 out of 5 stars Great find, September 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Buslink L40 40 GB External USB Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
There aren't many external hard drives out there for laptop users, so I was a little nervous about this investment, but it surpasses my expectations. It was easy to install and easy to transfer files to.
It works faster with a 2.0 usb driver, but you can find updates online.
