3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonbaly Good
The range for both the keyboard and the mouse is very good. I have no problem sitting 25 feet away from the system. The only complaint I have is the mouse could be more precise, because after using a while, you get frustrated and tired of trying to tame the mouse. I hope the manufacturer would take note of this review seriously and improve its product, making it one of...

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple Design - Works Great, June 3, 2009

This review is from: Buslink RF-6572A I-ROCKS RF 2.4GHz Wireless Keyboard with 5 Button Optical Mouse (Black) (Personal Computers)
I chose this wireless keyboard & mouse combination based almost entirely on it's design. It's quite simple and maybe even elegant.

If you're anything like me, you're looking for a simple wireless keyboard that doesn't have 34 extra buttons (that you'll never use) across the top and down both sides of the keyboard. This was crucial for me. I wanted a simple keyboard that I could grab from either side or the top and not worry about inadvertently hitting a button that would suspend my computer, start Media Player or any of the 34 other functions that many keyboard buttons provide.

So the design met my needs, for the most part.

The installation was absolutely painless! I was surprised when I saw that there was no installation CD in the box. At first I thought it was missing, but then I read the instructions and couldn't believe how easy the installation was:

1.) Insert the batteries.
2.) Slide the ON/OFF switch on the mouse to ON.
3.) Plug the USB dongle in.

That's it! No software. No drivers.

The keyboard is surprisingly heavy, but this may not be a bad thing. In a world where most things are made of cheap, flimsy plastic; this keyboard feels surprisingly well made and solid.

The keys are similar, but not exactly like a laptop. The keys are shallower than a standard keyboard, but not quite as shallow as a laptop keyboard. Unlike a laptop keyboard where there is no feedback when you press the keys, this wireless keyboard actually has a slight "click" when the keys are pressed.

There are two aspects of this combo that I'm not very happy with. The backspace key is the size of a standard key. As you know a normal backspace key on a standard keyboard is twice the size of a normal key. I hope I can get used to it and train my pinky to find the small backspace key accurately without looking.

The mouse is not exactly perfect. It's not a bad mouse, the design is quite nice and it's well made too. There are two "thumb" buttons on the side of the mouse that functions as back and forward buttons while browsing web pages. Since there is no software for this combo, I don't believe the button's functions can be changed or disabled. I don't intend to use them and they don't get in the way. The problem with this mouse is that it is a little bit too small length-wise. The width and height are comfortable, but my palm does not rest comfortably on the mouse. Perhaps I have larger hands and just favor a larger mouse.

I'm using this combo on my media center PC in my main TV viewing room. I sit approximately 8' away from my PC and I'm not having any range issues. I haven't noticed any lag or delays while typing. I played World of Warcraft with it for a couple of hours and had no problems.

If the backspace key and the mouse were a little larger, I could have easily given this 5 stars. Considering the price, you just can't go wrong with this.

Thanks for reading my review. I hope I was able to help with your purchase decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Distance, If that's what you neeed...THIS IS THE ONE., August 28, 2009
This review is from: Buslink RF-6572A I-ROCKS RF 2.4GHz Wireless Keyboard with 5 Button Optical Mouse (Black) (Personal Computers)
Solid Keyboard and Mouse.

On of switch to save battery power for mouse is crucial.

A tad small for my hands, but I am a giant.

The distance is whats good about this one. If you need to go more than 10 feet, this is the one for you. There are definately other better combos for short distance. However, this model was able to do 25 feet through a wall, without a skip. I also live on the third floor. So I had my gf go with it down to the first floor...and put the laptop in the far corner of the apartment. Guess what. It still worked flawlessly.

If you need a keyboard and mouse for a media center...this is the one...if u sit far away from ur computer or hook it to a tv and browse the web from bed....this is the one..

For the price...47.99 shipped...I can't be more happy...both a logitech and microsoft RF model failed for my application with direct line of sight to the receiver...and this one works through the wall...

Highly recommended.

Also i should note...the finish is a piano black...which looks slick as hell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent wireless desktop, December 26, 2009
This review is from: Buslink RF-6572A I-ROCKS RF 2.4GHz Wireless Keyboard with 5 Button Optical Mouse (Black) (Personal Computers)
If you are looking for a solid, reliable wireless desktop, this is it. I purchased this product to get rid of all the ugly wires that used to clutter my desk, and because I wanted to be able to work on my computer while reclining on a bed which is all the way across the room. I have owned it for 3 months now and have had no problems thus far. This product overcomes the major drawbacks of its competitors. Let me summarize:

Reception of receiver: Almost all other products transmit by infrared (IR) signals, which require a visual "line of sight" between keyboard/mouse and the receiver plugged into the computer. By contrast, this product transmits by radio frequency (RF). Line of sight is not an issue with RF. That means you can plug the USB receiver somewhere out of sight--like the back of your computer--and the keyboard and mouse will still work perfectly. I have easily used this product from 15 feet away with no line of sight, and some reviewers seem to have success with up to 30 feet away!

Battery consumption: Not a major issue with this product, compared to competitors. I use Energizer AA rechargable batteries, and need to change batteries about once every 2 to 3 months. Mouse takes 1 AA battery; keyboard takes 2 AA batteries.

Mouse: Beautiful design and functionality. The mouse is ergonomic to hold, and not as small as a traveling mouse designed for laptops. It has the standard two buttons, plus a clickable scroll wheel, plus two side buttons which allow you to navigate forward and back on your web-browser. There is also a low-battery indicator light. The laser sensor on the mouse is absolutely phenomenal. You can use the mouse on a completely uneven surface, such as bedsheets or clothes, and it still works just as well as if it were on a flat surface. If the mouse is not used for a while, there is a slight latency of about 1/2 second before the computer will detect it. There is a manual ON-OFF switch on the mouse.

Keyboard: Also excellent. It feels solid when you hold it in your lap to type, but is definitely not too heavy. The keys do not go deep like on a standard keyboard, but there is a tactile click with each keystroke which gives you the feedback to know that you entered the keystroke correctly. There is minimal noise from the keys. If the keyboard is not used for a while, there is a slight latency of about 1 second before the computer will detect it. There are 3 drawbacks with the keyboard:

1. A minor drawback is that there is no CAPS LOCK or NUM LOCK indicator light. (Perhaps this is not included because it would diminish battery life.)

2. A minor drawback is that there is no volume control on the keyboard. Volume control on the keyboard tends to be very helpful when playing games that run in fullscreen mode and are difficult to minimize. Without volume control on the keyboard, one has to stop the game, minimize it, and then look for the volume on the system tray.

3. The major drawback of this keyboard is the small backspace key, which is the size of a regular keyboard letter. The layout of the BACKSPACE and ENTER keys is old-fashioned, reminiscent of what you see on typewriters--large ENTER and small BACKSPACE. This was functional for typewriters, which did not autowrap text (you had to hit "RETURN" all the time), and did not allow for easy revisions (so you would rarely use BACKSPACE). But this layout should be out of the question for modern equipment, and this product should really have a larger BACKSPACE key like all the other keyboards out there nowadays.

Despite these drawbacks, this product is superior to its competition. It clearly reflects significant research, insight, and care on the part of its designers. In all, I have been extremely satisfied with this product. If you want a reliable wireless desktop that will give you minimal trouble, this is it.

Whether it's been Logitech or Microsoft, I have been frustrated by less than ten feet operating distance when using the flat panel in our conference room for presentations. The I-ROCKS wireless mouse and keyboard operating distance is shocking. I had it working at over 50 feet and around corners and over 30' when outside of the room with the door closed. In the conference room, about 18 feet away, response is immediate and unerring. It would be nice to have caps lock and num lock lights, but I'll ignore this deficiency because of the great wireless performance. I've purchased three sets for each of our conference rooms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Range, June 30, 2009

I purchased this for use with my laptop as a HTPC. I wanted a combo keyboard/mouse combo with great range and a 5 button mouse. This thing delivers! GREAT range...works flawlessly at 20 ft from TV. Both mouse and keyboard have a nice heft and seem well made. About the only negatives are no caps/num lock lights on the keyboard and an on off switch on the mouse. The mouse does seem to power down a bit if not used for a minute or so (the optical sensor starts flashing/pulsing on the underside). Minor negatives and not enough to lower rating from 5 stars. Hey, they even include alkaline batteries (albeit off brand).

I purchased this keyboard for the Mac hack I'm building mainly because I couldn't afford the Apple equivalent. I really like the way this keyboard/mouse combination looks and I'm very happy with its performance.

I was cautious about buying this product since there is very little out there in the way of reviews but I'm glad I took a chance. True there is no caps lock indicator light but for me that is such a minor feature that I did not factor it into my rating. I like the way the mouse feels in my hand as well and the tracking wheel works fine. For around $50 you get a pretty nice set up.

I originally purchased this from Amazon and when I received it I discovered from the box that it also comes in white which was actually the color I was looking for to begin with but couldn't find a keyboard in white that I liked. Sent this back to Amazon and would have exchanged it for white but they do not offer it so had to go with another vendor for about the same price just no Super Saver shipping. I've been using it for a couple of months now and all in all I'm a very happy owner!

1.0 out of 5 stars Mouse is great; keyboard not usable, August 24, 2010
This review is from: Buslink RF-6572A I-ROCKS RF 2.4GHz Wireless Keyboard with 5 Button Optical Mouse (Black) (Personal Computers)
I've owned this keyboard for about 1 year now, but I have only been able to use it for a few weeks of that time. Here's the breakdown:

GOOD:
1. Keyboard feel is solid and the keys feel good to the touch (IF you like a laptop-type keyboard in terms of thin keys and minimal distance to depress the key).
2. Mouse is nicely shaped and the scroll wheel is among the best I've ever used for smooth vertical scrolling.
3. Mouse battery seems to last quite awhile.

BAD:
1. Keyboard initially works well when you put new batteries in, but as the keyboard is used during the day (yes, just a SINGLE day; the best has been 3 days) the keyboard begins to send incorrect keys, miss keys (particularly CTRL key combinations, like CTRL-C to copy will often not "grab" the selected item to the clipboard), and fails to respond to initial key presses (you have to press several keys and then the subsequent keys will start getting picked up). Distance is NOT the issue since the keyboard is placed about 12 inches from the USB receiver.
2. The backspace key has been cut in half in order to make room for the backslash key which has been placed on the top row. The result is that in trying to insert backslashes into a filename and trying to hit the backspace key to correct a filename, I have FREQUENTLY ended up saving a file in some weird location (which is difficult to later find) because I thought I hit backspace when in fact I hit the backslash, or, I thought I hit a backslash when I actually hit the ENTER key. The ENTER key is the next point--it sits where the backslash is typically located, so, you can accidentally press ENTER instead of backslash, thus confirming something that may be totally incorrect when you are typing a filename. The backspace key needs to be left the standard full 2-key size at the top right and the enter key needs to be reduced in size to accommodate the backslash.
3. The keyboard works less and less well as it is moved more than 12 inches from the USB receiver--shucks, the whole point of a wireless keyboard is to be able to use it a long distance from the receiver!
4. There is no ability to accomplish horizontal scrolling with the mouse wheel (unless you position the mouse pointer over the horizontal scroll bar, of course).
5. The side mouse buttons are not helpful--though I'll admit this is a pretty personal opinion and others might like them.

If the keyboard didn't stop working well, I'd be OK with this keyboard even with the need to have the receiver so close to the keyboard, but when the keyboard doesn't get the correct characters, that can lead to problems and frustrations and lower productivity.
