5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this book
The books says right on the back that it is a collection of Bust's DIY articles through the years (The last reviewer didn't like that I guess).
But I disagree, and I'm in love with this book. The DIY articles of Bust are some of my favorites. And it's crammed with seriously, anything you could ever need or want to learn. Wanna learn how to buy your first house? No...

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book--but ultimately impractical.
I love Debbie Stoller's knitting and crochet books, so I bought this one as soon as I saw it was available. Unfortunately, I wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped and sent it back a few days later. The book is a collection of DIY tips and tutorials reprinted from Bust Magazine, and although there are some cool things included, I quickly realized it wasn't for me. A lot of the...

But I disagree, and I'm in love with this book. The DIY articles of Bust are some of my favorites. And it's crammed with seriously, anything you could ever need or want to learn. Wanna learn how to buy your first house? No problem. Want to learn how to make your own deodorant from Eco-friendly and natural ingredients? This will teach you. How to put together an emergency kit? Not enough people think of that. I mean seriously, you can learn how to replace a zipper, Create Finger Waves, Make soap, make cocktails, make your own beer, start a business, do your taxes, fixing a flat tire....the list goes on. This is one hefty book!

I just got it from the library, and the thought of parting with it makes me so sad, I'm going to order my own. And one for my best friend, and my brothers girlfriend, and....

I have been reading Bust magazine for years and it is one of my favorite magazines. I've been tearing out the crafts and recipes for years. I was excited when I saw the ad for this book, but it went far beyond my expectations. I'm a super busy person, but I find that if you go through there are a mix of projects that are appropriate for all levels of crafting, cooking or tips. For example, I've made the lamp out of books and it was super easy and I've received numerous complements on it. I know I won't be sewing my own clothes, but they have a skirt that you can make out of hem tape.

And cooking. Well, in my little bit of spare time I love cooking and the recipes are mostly handed down from grandmothers, mothers, aunts (which unfortunately, you don't always get the backstory in the book) and run the gamut from super fancy to super easy.

I promise you that if I, the non-artistic, almost type-A MBA working 60 hours a week can find time to do something from this book and love it, you can too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Multicraftual, December 22, 2011

This review is from: The Bust DIY Guide to Life: Making Your Way Through Every Day (Bust Magazine) (Hardcover)
This book is perfect for any woman who wants to know how to do it all, and doesn't mind getting her hands dirty. Every section had projects that I wanted to make or do, and I even enjoyed reading about the things that I might never find a use for. There are quirky projects for every type of girl, every aspect of your world, and every stage of your life. I mean, how many books teach you how to cook a fantastic meal, stitch the place setting and customize the plates to put it on, sew a dress, doll yourself up for the party, clean up the mess, tune up you bike, and then burn off the calories you consumed eating your goodies?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compilation of BUST crafty/DIY projects, February 16, 2012
By
This review is from: The Bust DIY Guide to Life: Making Your Way Through Every Day (Bust Magazine) (Hardcover)
I love BUST magazine, and I always look forward to reading the crafting/home projects articles in each issue. This book is a one-stop shop for all of these articles!

First off, this book is reminiscent of carrying a heavy math book in your backpack: it is seriously textbook sized. I LOVE it! You can find all kinds of great projects, such as:

- Unclogging a pipe drain

- What toolbits to use when drilling into plaster, brick, etc.

- How to make an apron

- Home remedies focusing on skin care and health

- How to alter jeans to fit you

It covers all the bases from bathroom maintenance to bicycle upkeep, with great craft projects, too. I like that it is not JUST a craft/sewing book or a "Plumbing for Dummies" book: it covers all areas in between.

One reviewer noted that she wasn't expecting it to be a compilation of articles from the magazine, so if you like BUST and read it regularly, you'll see the exact articles. However, BUST has been around for awhile so there are plenty of great articles you probably have never seen!

5.0 out of 5 stars I will always heart Bust, February 10, 2012

I love Bust for everything it gives us gals who take a different path in life and are proud of it! I don't sew, I rather shop. I don't cook, my guy does that. So why this book?? Because it still rules even if you are not into cooking or making your own clothes. They have great tips on financial upkeep as well as being safe in this dangerous world. What I like most about this book is that it makes you want to be creative, whether your doing a project they have already done, or doing something that Bust hasn't even thought of yet. And If you do something outlandish and great let Bust know, they might write about you in their magazine.

I gave it to a girlfriend for her 30th birthday. There is a.little bit of everything in it! Everything from cooking and grocery shopping, tuning up your bike, & diy crafts. The book wasn't in my hands for long, so I am back to purchase one for myself!

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book--but ultimately impractical., October 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Bust DIY Guide to Life: Making Your Way Through Every Day (Bust Magazine) (Hardcover)
A lot of the projects didn't interest me (like the makeup/hairstyle tutorials), but I found that many more were just too impractical for me to actually do. They either required tools I don't have access to, or called for so many ingredients/materials I don't already have lying around the house that it would just be cheaper to get the store-bought version.

This is just how I personally related to the book, and it's very possible that someone else could get a great deal of use out of it. The book is beautiful; lots of colorful pictures and the hardback binding make it tough enough to be with you every step of the way if you actually do try any of the projects.
