Product Description

Product Description

Bearing no relation to the Young MC hit of a few years back, Bust-A-Move 4 is an installment in the ongoing puzzle series that combines the matching fun of Tetris with the elimination action of Breakout. The object of the game is simple. Colored bubbles form stalactite-like clusters from the top of the game area. Aim and shoot bubbles at the clusters so that when three like-colored bubbles link together, they pop and any bubbles suspended below them fall. By eliminating all the bubbles, you advance to the next round. The game is made all the more challenging by a game clock that advances the clusters downward and special bubbles that either help pop or protect bubbles.

This Dreamcast version of Bust-A-Move 4 features high-resolution graphics, single-player and head-to-head challenge play, and an edit mode that allows players to design their own puzzles.

Bust-A-Move 4 proves that Dreamcast games don't necessarily need flashy graphics to be fun. This puzzle game has been around in one form or another for years, and still offers enough charm and gameplay to deserve a spot on the shelf of any fan of the genre. This incarnation adds a mixed bag of new features and enough play modes to keep you busy for a few weeks.

Gameplay is simple. The play area contains balls of various colors, and players control a cannon at the bottom of the screen that shoots one colored ball at a time. The cannon is immobile, but can be aimed left or right, and launched balls stick to those that are already on the playing field. If three or more balls of the same color are touching, they are cleared from the board. These simple rules offer more strategic possibilities than you'd think, and the fact that perfect aim is required to place the cannon shots where they're needed adds to the frantic action that ensues each time a game is started.

Bust-A-Move 4 incorporates a new combo system that makes spectacular board-clearing shots possible, but also decreases the difficulty of the game significantly because the combos happen far too often. The game is still fun in two-player mode, but the developers oddly left out the superior four-player abilities for which this game is famous. Still, with hundreds of puzzles to solve, arcade-perfect graphics (which isn't saying much), and a decent two-player mode, Bust-A-Move 4 serves up plenty of entertainment value. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Crisp, clear graphics
  • Hundreds of puzzles to play through
Cons:
  • No four-player mode
  • New supercombos are lame

Endless hours have been spent by me and my friends into this game over the last couple of days. It never gets old. It may seem a bit childish but it is extremely difficult at some points of the game. there are a few secret characters to unlock also. .....................

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent puzzle game, rivals Tetris January 7, 2001
Being a huge puzzle game fan, I remember spending quarter after quarter on this game during my college days. Imagine my surprise when I found this available for the Dreamcast at a price that's a fraction of what I've spent at the arcade! If you're a puzzle game fan, you'll love this. The underlying concept of the game is as simple as the classic Tetris game, with different levels and types of gameplay that allow for varying degrees of challenge. One new feature that's different from the arcade version is the introduction of pulleys in the "puzzle" modes, which operate under a combination of the laws of physics, and color clustering. I found the head-to-head player vs computer gameplay hilarious, being somewhat modeled after the Mortal Combat-type games, which rewards numerous wins with new characters in the game.

Though, not much has changed in the Bust-A-Move series, it is still excellent. The games graphics and sounds aren't spectacular, though the gameplay of this version is incredible. I was very glad to see Bust-A-Move had made it to the Sega Dreamcast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Chapter in the Series. August 28, 2000

I love Bust a Move. I always have and I always will. This installment has awesome, crisp graphics and goofy, super-deformed type characters. It also has a long quest mode which lets you travel through levels named after tarot cards (there is a confusing story which describes why you are doing this.) No 3-D stuff or cinemas though; they kept the 2-d, framey Neo-Geoesque "animation" in place. But who cares, the game is still awesome. The chain reactions and the ability to bounce off the ceiling are awesome additions. The stupid pulley balancing boards are annoying, the physics make no sense (ie. you add a ball to one side and sometime it goes up? ) and they aren't fun. But fortunately only a few boards are like that. It is still the best puzzle game around (though Tetris is very close). Buy this game, it's cheap and worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely and fun puzzle game January 6, 2002
With its several variations, and its charming Pokemon-like creatures, this puzzle game will bring hours and hours of entertainment. Think of it as an upside-down Tetris, but with many more ingredients to it: you have to burst bubbles above you by shooting more bubbles of the same color, until you reach three bubbles of the same color side-by-side. If you're good enough, you can rip out entire blocks of bubbles with a few moves. It's already very fun to play solo, but even more fun to bring in friends and do a two-player challenge. I have to say this game and Bomber Man are starting to make me a bit of an addict to puzzle games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bust or Move December 12, 2000
This game was alot of fun to play, but you might get too addicted to it. It shows that the most simple games made are the most fun, like tetris, dr. mario, pacman, and this game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Game that last a life time June 14, 2000

You'll want this game. If your into Tetris and all those puzzle games, then this is the game for you and your Dreamcast. Over the past two years I've worked in a arcade which has Bust-A-Move, and I would have to honestly say, Bust-A-Move is the best game there. It's one of those games that you get hooked on and you can play over and over again. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is because there are a couple parts of the game which are confusing and the instructions don't really help. But, for all the guys out there, girls love this game. So, if your ever on a date with someone, make sure you pop this game into your dreamcast. You won't regret it.
