5.0 out of 5 stars Stands The Test of Time, June 2, 2005
This review is from: Bust a Nut (Audio CD)
Music world since the introduction of synth changed a lot and lots of great bands like BOSTON, JOURNEY, ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA and ASIA with bombastic dynamism in rock dominated the charts. By the late 80s keyboard-led music became necessity. Tesla came out of such era but stayed simple just as Led Zeppelin, Early Deep Purple, or Whitesnake. They recreated staight rock'n roll based on guitars and passionate vocals. Their style well honors Nikola Tesla, legendary inventor, where the bandname came from.

Borrowing Nikola Tesla's 1943 invention, a machine cracking a nut, as the jacket image, the band fulfills the hard-rocking yet dyanmic and acoustic rock to the edge.

The opening The Gate/Intro signifies their sound and SOLUTION rocks heavy competing well with Metallica's ENTER SANDMAN. SHINE AWAY, TRY SO HARD are my top favorites from this album and the reason I love this album. NEED YOUR LOVING is the beautiful Purplish acoustic masterpiece track. ACTION TALKS and CRY are well set heavy tracks. Since ALOT TO LOSE they search for pop area using covers and renditional track. WONDERFUL WORLD, no doubt was inspired by Louis Armstrong classic WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD. Nice renditional track. GAMES PEOPLE PLAY is the full renditon of 1969 hit by Joe South.

Verdict: Rock'n roll masterpiece. Revitalizing guitar featured traditional hard rock.
Rating: 99 out of 100. Every track is the winner. Few albums can accomplish this.
Recommended for: Classic rock fans. Modern rock fans who love acoustic rock. Wide range of rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars ABOUT PERFECT, November 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bust a Nut (Audio CD)
One of the few bands that started rockin' and never changed their tune. Alot of Tesla fans "shined away" from this one....... bad idea! Arguably their heaviest and best work. Spin it 3 times and you'll be hooked. Shine Away, Solution, Invited, Rubberband, Wonderful World....... not tunes that that many people know. You all should. These are only a few of the jewels of this recording that is about perfect. Keith's voice is stunning, and I love the acoustic phrasings that are all over it, but it still loses none of it's heaviness. I can't say enough about it. It's just wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock the way it's meant to be played, March 3, 2004

I've alway's thought this record was their best, but many hardcore fans are unable to let go of the first two albums. MR and GRC were classics all told, but Bust a Nut song for song betters them both. If you've never heard Tesla before quickly skip to track 10, Earthmover and relish it in all its sonic glory. Tesla has never been about relenquishing its integrity to the fad following public. They are about writing great bluesy rock that lyrically mimic lifes ups and downs.

5.0 out of 5 stars For rock N roll fans everywhere, June 20, 2003

This is just another amazing installment in the Tesla rock discography that continues to show improvement, but far from a departure from the early days. May be their best album to date, but was released at a time when people were more concerned about being depressed. Highlights include "Shine On" "Try so Hard" and the "Games people play" remake. A truly remarkable album. Great driving music. A must for all rockers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Reinventing Rock & Roll?, February 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bust a Nut (Audio CD)
I was looking through my CD collection and rediscovered this one in particular. I gave it a listen after many months. It was still enjoyable and still rocked! Some of favorite Tesla songs prior to this are "Gettin' Better" & "Modern day Cowboy". On this CD, "She want she want" & "Try so hard" are excellent songs. "Games people play" & "Rubberband" were great back in the day and continue to impress now. Nikolai Tesla (the inventor & bands name sake) would be very pleased after listening to this. I, too, highly endorse this CD & recommend to all fans of Rock & Roll.

These guys are no-b.s. rocknroll! Had the times been different, this album would've taken them to a career high, instead it marks the end of a sadly discounted and overlooked American rock band. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars You can bank on Tesla producing the goods., June 15, 2002

What an incredible band they are. This album is pure class. Just great songs, one after the other... just goes on and on. I would have paid a thousand bucks for this, but I would have paid two grand for 'Psychotic Supper'. Shine Away, Rubberband and Try So Hard, stand out just amongst the rest of the great songs. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Musical Maturity Reaches Even Greater Highs, January 28, 2002
This review is from: Bust a Nut (Audio CD)
With this '94 release, Tesla's musical maturity and depth of spirituality are delightfully combined here. From the acoustic and electric combinations of Try So Hard to the ethereal intro and exit of Mama's Fool, the talent of this band is in full bloom. Jeff Keith's raspy voice is delicious on the harder rockin' tunes, (see "Solution" and "Cry" especially). Keith's vocals glide like butter over the lovestruck "Alot to Lose." Building on the creativity of past CD's, Tesla reaches new highs with "Bust A Nut."

I Know Tesla have some great cd's out. This is my favorite. It took a few times of listening and then it grabs you. This is a great hard rock record. This gets 5 stars because it simply Rocks! If you buy this give it a chance and listen to it a few times it will grow on you. This is what a great rock-n-roll record sounds like.

It really surprises me how many hard rock/ metal fans, and even *Tesla* fans for that matter, are oblivious to this album. BUST A NUT is truly an orgasmic recording. Check this album out, and spread the word!
