Problem: Cut a tiny white pill into exact halves. One half of pill crumbles to dust. Force other half down throat of Bengal with dagger claws. Repeat twice a day.
Result: Massive blood loss from lacerations on arms and face from aforementioned Bengal.

Solution: Order this pet piller. Order empty #4 gelatin capsules. Place pill half (or pill dust if the pill falls apart) in gel capsule. Pull back plunger. Place capsule completely inside rubber tip (again, after the plunger has already been pulled back). Cradle Bengal like baby. POP! Down her throat before she knows what is happening.

My wife and I tried several solutions before working this all out. Not only were our cat's pills tiny white things, they had to be cut in half so there was no pill popper that would effectively dispense them. We initially used pill pockets which worked well for about a week. Then our cat simply refused them, I suspect because she didn't like the taste of the medicine inside.

The gelatin caps have several benefits:
- No bad medicine taste for kitty
- Can be filled with multiple meds at once or with crumbles from failed pill cuttings
- Easy to swallow
- #4 is a perfect fit for this dispenser. Though #4 is pretty tiny, so it doesn't hold much. The pills I have are about 1/4" in width, and to fit an entire one of those into the capsule you would have to cut the pill into two pieces. I'm pretty confident larger capsule sizes would fit the piller, given the flexibility of the its rubber tip.
- The gel cap is such a tight fit that the air piston of the pill popper literally shoots the medicine down her throat. One brief swallow and she is done with minimal stress to all parties.

What a relief! The pet piller has just solved all my problems. I could never use the long handled one, which always seemed like it might be better for large dogs than cats. And I have tried every trick in the book, including compounded chewies and pill pockets, which my three cats thought at first were great treats, and then got wise and refused them. I have cut, mashed and chopped their thyroid meds, tried my fingers, and still found pills on the floor hours later. I read every review I could, and this piller is amazing. Quick, easy, short, perfect. My cats are happy and so am I. It's worth paying more for postage than for the piller, believe me.

I have to give my 18-year-old cat a tiny half-pill every single day for his kidney disease.
This usually means about 15 minutes of me prying his mouth open, putting the pill in and then trying to use a dropper to put water in behind it. Usually he spits the pill out before I can get the water in his mouth. Each time I have to try again, the pill disintegrates a little. Not to mention I have to make sure my other cats don't eat the pill off the floor in the process.

I used those pill pocket treats for a while, but then it seemed like he figured out what was up and refused to eat them. I also tried hiding the pill in a spoonful of beef baby food. Same deal... only lasted a while then he figured it out. This resulted in me NOT giving him his pill. I didn't want to terrorize him for 15 minutes every day just to give him a pill. I felt like a bad cat-mom because I wasn't giving him the medicine he needed to keep him from being uncomfortable.

Then I read the review on here from Deirdre... and I ordered this pet piller and a bag of #4 gelatin capsules (off ebay).
Success!!!
The #4 gelatin capsule is the perfect size for the half pill I have to give him. It's also the PERFECT size to fit into the Buster Pet Piller. I seriously couldn't even believe how easy it was to give him his pill once I got the stuff in the mail. It literally took about 2 seconds. I gently opened his jaw enough to put the tip of the piller in the side, and just squirted the pill & water into his mouth. He looked at me like "what was that?" and then went about his business. No more hateful glares after minutes of trying to force a tiny, melting pill into his mouth!!!

I understand some of the bad reviews because I doubt this piller would work without putting the pill into a gelatin capsule.

NOTE: After 1 week of use, I edited this review & reduced ratings from 5 stars to 3 stars.
Best pet piller I've ever used..for at least the first week! After nursing pets through multiple chronic diseases, this is by far the easiest to USE AND CONTROL...INTIALLY!! However, after only one week of use and rinsing out afterwards with cold water, the plastic seems to swell and loses it's smooth function. It becomes very stiff and inoperable, requiring considerable finger strength to eject the pill; sometimes not at all. This is unfortunate because it is truly starts out as the best pet pill ever!
I like the fact that water can be drawn up into syringe to follow the pill and rinse the throat of the medication as specifically directed by our vet; no second water-filled syringe needed. I do wish the black rubber ring on plunger was permanently adhered not just placed about the plunger. After washing and multiple uses, the ring eventually comes loose and sticks contributing to the inoperability of the plunging action. I also like that I can give my pet medication by myself. Whole tablets are the easiest to dispense. Once tablets are cut into halves and quarters we lost some control of them and they fell out of the green rubber tip as they were too small to be held securely by the tip.
