2.0 out of 5 stars Acceptable, but don't waste your money
This book has a couple of useful recipes, but too much sugar and too many carbs.

However, more important, the religious overtones - primarily in the opening chapters - completely undermine the authority of the authors. The blatant suggestion to "pray rather than treat" is both insulting and dangerous. In addition, the link to some fly-by-night religious help...

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this cookbook!, September 25, 2005
This review is from: Busy People's Diabetic Cookbook (Busy People's Cookbooks) (Spiral-bound)
I have been usings Busy People's Diabetic Cookbook for several months. This Cookbook has a lot of Breakfast ideas, and delicious drink smoothies that I find very helpful to keep me going on a good, healthy diet. It also has a lot of other delicious entree ideas that are easy to make. My kids love the Super Fruity Strawberry Milk Shakes, and when made, and poured into a tall glass, it looks like a special shake straight from the malt shop! It's delicious. The Cream of Chicken & Brocolli Soup was delcious, as well as the Parmesan Potatoes. The best part of this cookbook is that the recipies are easy to make, and none of them take over 30 minutes to cook, including the preparation time. I am surprised that I can cook a good meal in a short amount of time, and it be delicious. The menu idea suggestions that Dawn adds for each recipie have been a great help to planning an entire meal. I enjoyed the Diabetic Busy People's Cookbook so much that I bought 3 more of the other Busy People's Cookbooks. This money was well spent. Each cookbook interacts with the others to help plan meals (if you need ideas and suggestions). These cookbooks are perfect for busy Mom's! I use them all to help plan weekly meals. I have lost 10 pounds already by changing my diet, and using Dawn's recipies. I am borderline diabetic, and if I can keep up with a weekly meal plan with some of these recipies -- my health is going to improve tremendously. I'd love to see Dawn come up with a cookbook for eating for one or two - some way to help me with breakfast and lunch ideas for (one person) that I would cook while the kids are at school, and my husband is at work. It would be great to have all Dawn's recipies on a CD to help make grocery shopping lists easier to handle, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good to get you started, July 30, 2006

This review is from: Busy People's Diabetic Cookbook (Busy People's Cookbooks) (Spiral-bound)
I bought this book to help my boyfriend manage his diabetes better. There are several recipes in here, but I was a little disappointed that there weren't more meal/main course options. Its great if you're primarily looking for desserts, appetizers, etc to serve, but I feel very limited with the options for a main course.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best diabetic cookbook I have found!!, December 4, 2008
This review is from: Busy People's Diabetic Cookbook (Busy People's Cookbooks) (Spiral-bound)
I have made more recipes out of this cookbook than any other cookbook I have bought. All the recipes I have tried have been very good. I just made the Pina Colada muffins last night and they were delicious. If you are looking for a Diabetic cookbook with easy recipes and recipes that don't ask for alot of ingred. Then you have got to get this cookbook!!
I would recommend all of Dawn Hall's cookbooks. I have also tried recipes from Down home cooking without the down home fat and they are also very good. There is also good information about diabetes which is good to know for the newly diagnosed. Another good reason to get Dawn Hall's cookbooks is a portion of the proceeds from them go to help Christian Health Ministries. This organization has volunteer doctors and nurses who offer basic health care to people who can't afford it. So you get great recipes and you help a cause how can you not get this cookbook!!

I really like this book. One of the hardest times to control my blood sugar is the holidays. Now I have great diabetic recipes I can make that anyone can eat. They can't tell they're "diabetic".

5.0 out of 5 stars Good ideas for quick low sugar/carb meals, January 27, 2008
This review is from: Busy People's Diabetic Cookbook (Busy People's Cookbooks) (Spiral-bound)
A good selection of recipes that are quick and easy to make. Many items are already in your pantry just waiting for a new way to prepare them.
Friends also tried and liked the recipes. I wound up ordering books for them!

I have all of Dawn Hall's Busy People's cookbooks (even the very first ones). I've even had to re-order the first cookbook because I used it so much it fell apart. I give them as wedding presents too. Perfect for a young couple on a budget, short on time and needing to find comfort in their new lifestyles. They are always much appreciated. The addition of the diabetic cookbook has been great; I rely on it a lot now that our lives have been affected by diabetes.

Awesome recipes, especially for those on the go. My husband is a truck driver and was tired of all of the fruit by itself, finger sandwiches and such. Recommend for ALL.

This book has a couple of useful recipes, but too much sugar and too many carbs.

However, more important, the religious overtones - primarily in the opening chapters - completely undermine the authority of the authors. The blatant suggestion to "pray rather than treat" is both insulting and dangerous. In addition, the link to some fly-by-night religious help group is irritating. Praying about your condition might make you feel better, but when my health is at stake I go to a Medical professional rather than making a wishful appeal to an imaginary helper in the sky.

There are better, and more credible books out there.
