5.0 out of 5 stars Hate the kitchen
Wow! With this book I can really cook. I'm not into the fancy stuff. This book lets you take normal everyday food and make it into a meal. This might not appeal to a gormet chef but for someone who hates to cook but has to, this is the ticket. It saves you so much time in the kitchen. I already have my favorites marked and my husband is always asking me when am I...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I love to cook and was looking forward to the "down home cooking" recipes. However, I found most contained artifical sweeteners, which I do not use. I was looking for a low fat, healthy cookbook using fresh ingredients. I glanced through about 1/3 of the book and could not find one recipe that I was interested in, so I returned it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, easy cooking, February 4, 2006
This review is from: Busy People's Down-Home Cooking Without the Down-Home Fat (Spiral-bound)
I own two cookbooks in the "Busy People" series, and both of them are well-thumbed and often-used. I'm a bachelor with limited cooking skills (and with even less patience when it comes to kitchen chores), but this book offers simple, easy recipes that can be quickly prepared with very few ingredients. The directions are concise, and each recipe is printed on a separate page with a graphic that clearly gives preparation and cooking time. Nutritional information for each dish is also listed. The recipes are generally low in fat, but they don't have the long-as-your-arm list of exotic ingredients and spices that I find in many low-fat cookbooks.

Of course some of the recipes are better than others, but almost everything I've tried has been very good. There's nothing fancy here: if you want to impress someone with a virtuoso kitchen performance, there may be better collections. For plain ol' weeknight cooking that's healthy, fast, and inexpensive, this book is a worthy standby.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just keeping it simple., August 3, 2005

This review is from: Busy People's Down-Home Cooking Without the Down-Home Fat (Spiral-bound)
When I'm on a diet, I like to try new recipes, but that doesn't mean that I like to make a bunch of floofy, fancy stuff with names that I can't pronounce. It seems like any cookbook I see anymore has to make things look decorative and difficult. This book keeps it simple (and sometimes a little silly), but very good. They look like the recipes that I already make for myself, just this gives you so many more ideas. If you're planning on cooking for more than just your family or yourself, this may not be the book for you, but if you want something very easy, very simple, and tasty too--then here you go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It, January 26, 2006

I have to eat low fat now because of my cholesterol. My family likes all these recipes and my children do not even notice my change to low fat. I highly recommend it. The author is a Christian who has struggled with her weight all her life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to eat the "bad" foods you crave and still be "good", July 21, 2008

Great cookbook to transform traditional bad foods to good foods. We love these recipies. They use few ingredients and they are easy to find at the store. The spiral bound cover lets it lay flat on the counter while you are cooking which is always a plus. This is great for teenagers and things to make for them after school or let them make it themselves. I have found some of the calorie counts to be off since my brand of what ever item may not be the same as what the writer uses. Like the burgers covered in biscuits...I've not found biscuits as low at my grocery. Overall it remains a 5 star product.

I just love this cookbook. Simple to follow with great results. My picky eaters are eating veggies that I thought I couldn't pay them to try and they are loving it!
