Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-This ode to toes features digits that wave, rub a dog's tummy, draw, hide in the sand, pick up toys, wear silly clothing, serve as sort-of fishing poles, and stick out beyond the blankets at bedtime. Although the rhyme scheme is sometimes a bit bumpy, children will easily relate to the activities enumerated in the poem. The realistic, single and full-page paintings show a variety of close-up images of feet as well as their happy, multiethnic owners. One particularly charming illustration shows an appealing girl smiling from behind her "Soapy toes." Pair this with Audrey Wood's Piggies (Harcourt, 1991) for a toe-tapping storytime.

From Booklist

Ages 2^-4. From the book's cover, where a little girl with barrette-bedecked braids spins on her bare tippy-toes, to the last page, where two pairs of feet peek out from beneath the bedcovers, this picture book sounds a one-note salute to busy toes. Executed in warm hues, Willingham's illustrations have an almost photogenic clarity and feature portraits of predominantly African American children happily playing, digging, even writing with their toes. Combine this toe tickler with Don and Audrey Wood's Piggies (1991) to wear the wiggles out of both fingers and toes at any toddler story time. Annie Ayres

5.0 out of 5 stars Children and adults alike can relate to having "Busy Toes", September 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Busy Toes (Hardcover)
In the case of "Busy Toes", you sure can tell a book by its cover! The delightful cover illustration of a little girl on her toes invites you to turn the pages with your fingers (or toes). Simple, say-it-all, words accompany each rich illustration of a child manipulating his/her toes. The rainbow of faces reminds us of the wonderful diversity of our world and delight in moving toes serves as a common bond. The authors and illustrator have created a book that will bring a smile to a child and adult alike......and the desire to wiggle your toes!
