5.0 out of 5 stars They really work!, December 5, 2001
By
This review is from: Busy Woman's Cookbook (Plastic Comb)
The recipes with only 3 and 4 ingredients are wonderful for the cooking-challenged like me. And here's the best part. The stuff actually tastes good! My husband and son have never been too crazy about my meatloaf, but I made this one (the secret ingredient is catsup in the meat and as a sauce), and they went back for more. Walk--no, run and get this one today. Tell all your friends. I have made the Licking Good Spareribs, Old Time Meat Loaf, Over Noodles Beef Stew, and Chicken Fried Steak.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick meals, less time, less ingredients, August 29, 2002

I commute 3 hours a day, and this book will give you quick hits for meal time. You should be able to find a recipe at the end of your workday, made with everyday household ingredients, that taste good and don't take much time to cook.

My favorite recipe was the Pretzel Baked Chicken and the kids enjoyed the Lazy Day Potato soup the best.

You should buy this book if you:
-hate to spend a lot of time in the kitchen
-like simple fast recipes
-want something that tastes good made in less time

Enjoy!!! Bon Appetit

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quick and easy recipes!, June 19, 2003

This review is from: Busy Woman's Cookbook (Plastic Comb)
This book is not just for women but for men too. With over 500 recipes you can find lots to like. The recipes use simple, easy to find ingredients. A great cookbook for beginning cooks, college students, busy people, and those physically unable to spend time in the kitchen. Soups, side dishes, meats, cakes, pies, cookies, appetizers. Also, the side notes about remarkable women make great reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the healthiest recipes, August 3, 2006

i bought this book bc i dont know how to cook and i never have any ideas. it is neat, but doesnt have the healthiest ingredients. there's a lot of processed food ingredients. its quick, but not the healthiest. also uses ingredients like "fryer chicken" and i have no idea what a fryer chicken is. this is a good cook book, i'd recommend it, but it could use more fresh ingredients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for those who are newly espoused......, February 17, 2006

I bought this book at a Cracker Barrell store and couldn't wait to get home to try it out. The recipes are so easy, and they don't call for outlandish ingredients and spices that noone ever has! After only two weeks, I had prepared over ten recipes from the cookbook.

I recently gave this as a gift to a young newlywed co-worker. Once I heard she was feeding her husband Hamburger Helper every night, I knew I had to give her this particular book to get her on her way to being the next great cook! With recipes only having 3-4 ingredients, it makes it easy to personalize the dishes by adding your own flavor...OR she could get her sweetie in the kitchen to help come up with their own masterpiece meals!!!

This is my very favorite cookbook to share with my "tween" daughter, too! Nothing is too difficult for even an 11-12 year-old to handle! I love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A no-brainer cooking guide for quick yet tasty meals., August 1, 2009

I agree with one of the reviewers that some of the ingredients used in the recipes tend to be of the processed or higher sodium variety. Yet such liquid seasonings like soy sauce can be easily found in a lower sodium variety in most grocery stores.

What is neat about this book is that it can't be beat for creating delicious meals from but a very few ingredients.

Additionally, I have watched a number of cooking shows from New York City (Rachel Rsy's among them) and although they feature what appears to be some great recipes finding the ingredients required for them can be quite a different story. Perhaps they are readily available in NYC but in places like Savannah, Georgia the ONLY place I can sometimes find the ingredients required are in our FRESH MARKET. I have to go to as many as six stores before I could find what I needed for these more fancy recipes. BUSY WOMEN'S COOKBOOK however not only require few ingredients to cook their recipes but they are readily available in your neighborhood Kroger.

On top of that the cook of the house (oftentimes the woman and in my case it is) can leave town to visit family and know that their usually non-cooking spouse can easily prepare a meal for themselves which they can really enjoy. My favorites in this cookbook, of course, were LAST MINUTE BEEF TERIYAKI, SKINNY MINNY PORKCHOPS, SWEET and SOUR CHICKEN and LOW CALORIE OATMEAL COOKIES.

5.0 out of 5 stars SO EASY, SO WONDERFUL!, June 26, 2009
This review is from: Busy Woman's Cookbook (Plastic Comb)
I got this book for .70 cents at Goodwill and I love it and use it every week! I bought another copy from amazon and gave it as a wedding gift. (My friend was learning to cook and needed all the help she could get!)It's so easy and I love that I only need 3 or 4 ingredients, because I usually have those in my house already, as opposed to a 10 ingredient recipe that I always end up short on one thing. I love to bake with my kids and there are many kid friendly recipes in this book. It's also very easy with a 3 or 4 ingredient recipe to add a 5th or 6th ingredient if I want a personal touch.
