5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best in the series, January 20, 2008

This review is from: But I Am an Alligator (Charlie and Lola) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book makes a great bedtime story. It's fun to read out loud.

In "But I Am an Alligator," Lola teaches Charlie that you shouldn't be embarrassed about embracing your interests and being yourself. It also teaches some fun facts about alligators -- they live in swamps and rivers, lay eggs amd get bigger "than even our table!" Like the rest of the books in this series, the dialogue is real ("This is my favorite fancy dress costume and I'm not ever NEVER taking it off.") and the illustrations loose and quirky.

The story is also included on the DVD Charlie and Lola, Vol. 5 - But I Am an Alligator. If your child likes this skewed humor I'd also recommend the Skippyjon series.

My toddler and I enjoy the Charlie and Lola book series. This is one of our favorites. It has a nice lesson to teach which I don't think my two year old understands, but eventually he will. I enjoy the illustrations in the book. We refer to Charlie and Lola a lot in our home.

Lovely, gentle, fun series for children. Charlie's way of looking after Lola is endearing, and that little girl has the best giggle!

Great cartoon, great books! The best animated tv show available for kids. Great life teaching stories. Im not a fan of cartoons that call people stupid or just seem like junk tv. these shows teach kids things that are healthy and loving. The books are from the cartoons. We just love them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lola teaches Charlie the importance of an imagination, September 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: But I Am an Alligator (Charlie and Lola) (Mass Market Paperback)
Children love to imagine and pretend (or at least they will if you get them away from the TV!)and Lola has the biggest imagination of all. She loves playing dress up and her current passion is the alligator. Charlie thinks it's a nice costume but maybe she should take it "off sometime". Lola proceeds to give him a lesson on why alligators are great (nice little inside lesson for kids). The next day is talk day in school and Lola has refused Charlie's help for her speech.

As some of my charges were reading this book, we paused to ask ourselves, "oh no, isn't she going to be embarrassed up on stage in an alligator costume!" and we voice our vote of "yes" or "no".

Then the best part of the book comes as Lola shows being yourself is always the "best" as she shares with the school the joy of pretending.

My charges talked after that for a long time about their favorite pretend costume and why! We ended up in the playroom dragging out forgotten dress up clothes and made up our own play!
