1.0 out of 5 stars REALLY AWFUL SINGING!
I came across a review someplace that said this young man was today's leading
proponent of folk singing. Since I'm a huge fan of the 60's revival of folk singing (Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Peter Paul & Mary, Joni Mitchell, et.al.) I
was intrigued and went in search of one of his recordings. Got this one.
Was eager to hear the next great folk singer...

5.0 out of 5 stars some people need to understand they're just grumpy, December 1, 2011
This is a beautifully simple album by a sensitive artist. I needed to rate it a 5 for two reasons.

Firstly - it's beautifully crafted and insightful on many levels both audibly and conceptually...

Secondly, reviewers like the only other reviewer of this album put on some weirdly personal message about putting on candles and slinking into a bathtub with some chubby hubby and hunky fireman calendars and then get grumpy if the album they knew nothing about doesn't fit their weird setting. So then obtusely they rate it a 1 out of 5 stars and don't consider that it would leave a crimson mark of branding on the amazon page when anyone looks up Sam Amidon records. So this review is to set back a standard.... to balance one grumpy persons experience and at raise the chances that amazon previewers will consider this album a non-1-star-album.

And again... it's just simple and beautiful as well - so give it a try

Was eager to hear the next great folk singer. Turned down the lights, lit a
couple of candles, and put the CD on. This must be a joke! Some of the most
wretchedly terrible singing I've ever heard in my life! Water-thin voice, hardly
ever on pitch, diction so terrible you can't understand half of the words! I could
go on, but really, it's a waste of time. It's a shame, because the instrumental
accompaniment has a certain, simple, almost primitive appeal. But the singing ...
YECHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
