This book is hilariously funny. Most of what passes as humor today is not funny, but this little jewel from 1928 is everything a comedy should be.

Anita Loos (1888-1981)was a prolific Hollywood writer from the very early days of film into the 1950's. This book is a sequel to her highly successful GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES.

On a sophisticated level, this is a satire of the intellectual and social high brows of the 1920's. Readers familiar with that era will recognize the "literary geniuses" that were regulars at NYC's Algonquin Hotel.

On a simpler level, this story is told through the unrefined views of Lorelei and Dorothy, two less-than-privileged girls who went to New York and made it to the top--but they do not stop there.

Lorelei has married the man of her choice and is determined to become "literary" and teach some lesson that will make the world a better place. She lets us know that you don't always have to go very deep to see the truth.

Dorothy has had a steep climb from the "low envirament" of her childhood in the "Greater Pacific Street Fair and Carnaval Company" in California to the Ritz Hotel in NYC and the Ziegfield Follies, but she still has a lot to learn. The life of Dorothy is the best lesson that Lorelei knows, so Dorothy becomes the subject of Lorelei's literary efforts.

BUT GENTLEMEN MARRY BRUNETTES can be read in an afternoon or less, but it will stay with you a long time...something for the irreverent, something for the socially inept, something for the "riskay" and all of it lol f-u-n-n-y. It's funny, I can't say it enough!
