4.0 out of 5 stars No nonsense, August 31, 2000

This review is from: Butchering Livestock at Home: Storey's Country Wisdom Bulletin A-65 (Pamphlet)
This a good, straight foreward pamphlet on how to kill, skin and cut up a variety of animals. I found it to be a useful guide eventhough I don't agree with some of the killing and skinning techniques used. I have over 20 years experience breeding and butchering rabbits and chinchillas. I can assure you that the techniques outlined in this publication are sound and practical. The reason I purchased this pamphlet was to gain some insight into to butchering of larger animals. I feel the author does an excelent job of giving a basic break down of the esentials. I do however, wish the author would have broken down the cuts more thouroughly and dedicated a section to deer.

Easy to read and follow. Good for beginners or "new country farmers".

5.0 out of 5 stars best bang for my buck, no pun intended, August 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Certainly a most useful and straightforward booklet. I live on a farmstead in a remote location and hope to be able to 'put up' my own poultry and small livestock. No matter how often I search for the best way to do this, it always comes around to the same thing.....I will just have to 'do it'. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can........just need to brace myself and do it. I will as soon as I get hungry enough. At least I now know how....just get 'er done and get on with it. I know the difference between humanely raised and home preserved foods. I am not interested in being a vegan, even though I have been a serious animal lover since I can remember; so what! One thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other, except that it makes me want to raise my own animals for the table, so that I can know they had a good life and were respectfully treated. That's a reflection from a trip to the packing houses in the early '50s when I was in the 1st grade......a school outing......the lack of common sense in the educational system is for another review.
