Great 10/22 Mag Loader,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Butler Creek 24211 Hot Lips 10/22 Loader (Misc.)
I have been looking for a fast way to load my Eagle 30rnd magazines and the one 25rnd Butler Creek Steel lips magazine I have. I had read conflicting reports whether or not it would work on other magazine not made by Butler Creek, so I decided to try it. Initially I had some trouble with my Eagle mags. I came back to it a week later and no problem at all. I believe I had initially mis-seated the Eagle mag in the loader. After I got that to work, I tried my 10rnd Ruger factory mags and they worked as well. Bottom line, this loader works with my Eagle, Steel Lips and Ruger factory mags. Very speedy and saves thumbs. Definitely worth it.

Shoot Faster!!,
This review is from: Butler Creek 24211 Hot Lips 10/22 Loader (Misc.)
Buy it. It makes reloading your mags super fast and you can focus on shooting and having fun instead of loading.
There's a trick to making it work faster: turn the knob about a quarter turn and let the next bullet fall from the channel into the feed lips, then turn another quarter turn and it will feed into the magazine. Turning it nonstop doesn't give time for the bullets to move into position to be pushed into the magazine. Turn. Pause. Turn. Pause. You'll learn the timing to make it go very fast.

Learning curve,
By Stephen H. Wilson (San Antonio, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Butler Creek 24211 Hot Lips 10/22 Loader (Misc.)
I rated this loader with 4 stars, not because of how it works, but because the new owner has to figure out how to make it work, with little to no instructions.
First, it will work with different magazines or clips, including the factory Ruger. Second, the mag must be inserted into the loader correctly. Once you figure out how, it snaps in easily and locks into place with a little arm that turns. Third, you cannot just dump in the ammo and spin the knob! Start off with some lower cost ammo and learn how to hold the loader. For me it works best if I hold it with the hopper to my left and at a slight incline up at the left and down to the right so you can see where the rounds feed into the actual loading mechanism. Turn the knob slowly, allowing the next round to feed into the loader. Continue to turn allowing the mechanism to place the round into the magazine. Another click and pause for the next round to drop and so on. If it binds, stop! Try turning it backwards a small amount, then forward. If it does not feed, stop, remove the magazine and see what has happened. My experience is that sometimes the round will get sideways and must be removed. Sometimes two rounds will get into the loader mechanism and get in each others way. Be careful -- the loader is stronger than the ammo and will crease, dimple, or outright bend a .22 shell casing if you force it. Finally, do not just "dump 50 rounds in and load away". A better way is to put in as many rounds as you intend to load, i.e. 10 for a standard magazine. This is easy to do with most ammo, just slide the ammo carrier out of the box, exposing 10 shells; hold the box down and dump the 10 exposed rounds into the hopper. By using this approach, you cannot try to force 11 rounds into a 10 round magazine. Several experiments have shown that 11 rounds just won't fit into a standard, 10 round mag. Is it worth the effort? I think so. Most high quality .22LR ammo has some type of coating on it that easily transfers to your hands, pants, stock, trigger, etc. It is much cleaner and easier on the thumbs to use the loader. Once you learn how, it is also much faster. Take the time to learn how and you will be happy with this product.
