Great 10/22 Mag Loader,

This review is from: Butler Creek 24211 Hot Lips 10/22 Loader (Misc.)
I have been looking for a fast way to load my Eagle 30rnd magazines and the one 25rnd Butler Creek Steel lips magazine I have. I had read conflicting reports whether or not it would work on other magazine not made by Butler Creek, so I decided to try it. Initially I had some trouble with my Eagle mags. I came back to it a week later and no problem at all. I believe I had initially mis-seated the Eagle mag in the loader. After I got that to work, I tried my 10rnd Ruger factory mags and they worked as well. Bottom line, this loader works with my Eagle, Steel Lips and Ruger factory mags. Very speedy and saves thumbs. Definitely worth it.

Shoot Faster!!,
This review is from: Butler Creek 24211 Hot Lips 10/22 Loader (Misc.)
Buy it. It makes reloading your mags super fast and you can focus on shooting and having fun instead of loading.
There's a trick to making it work faster: turn the knob about a quarter turn and let the next bullet fall from the channel into the feed lips, then turn another quarter turn and it will feed into the magazine. Turning it nonstop doesn't give time for the bullets to move into position to be pushed into the magazine. Turn. Pause. Turn. Pause. You'll learn the timing to make it go very fast.

Learning curve,
By Stephen H. Wilson (San Antonio, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Butler Creek 24211 Hot Lips 10/22 Loader (Misc.)
I rated this loader with 4 stars, not because of how it works, but because the new owner has to figure out how to make it work, with little to no instructions.
First, it will work with different magazines or clips, including the factory Ruger. Second, the mag must be inserted into the loader correctly. Once you figure out how, it snaps in easily and locks into place with a little arm that turns. Third, you cannot just dump in the ammo and spin the knob! Start off with some lower cost ammo and learn how to hold the loader. For me it works best if I hold it with the hopper to my left and at a slight incline up at the left and down to the right so you can see where the rounds feed into the actual loading mechanism. Turn the knob slowly, allowing the next round to feed into the loader. Continue to turn allowing the mechanism to place the round into the magazine. Another click and pause for the next round to drop and so on. If it binds, stop! Try turning it backwards a small amount, then forward. If it does not feed, stop, remove the magazine and see what has happened. My experience is that sometimes the round will get sideways and must be removed. Sometimes two rounds will get into the loader mechanism and get in each others way. Be careful -- the loader is stronger than the ammo and will crease, dimple, or outright bend a .22 shell casing if you force it. Finally, do not just "dump 50 rounds in and load away". A better way is to put in as many rounds as you intend to load, i.e. 10 for a standard magazine. This is easy to do with most ammo, just slide the ammo carrier out of the box, exposing 10 shells; hold the box down and dump the 10 exposed rounds into the hopper. By using this approach, you cannot try to force 11 rounds into a 10 round magazine. Several experiments have shown that 11 rounds just won't fit into a standard, 10 round mag. Is it worth the effort? I think so. Most high quality .22LR ammo has some type of coating on it that easily transfers to your hands, pants, stock, trigger, etc. It is much cleaner and easier on the thumbs to use the loader. Once you learn how, it is also much faster. Take the time to learn how and you will be happy with this product.

This Butler Creek "Hot Lips Loader" works surprising well on all of our Ruger 10/22 magazines. I took a chance based on some of the reviews here, since the product description said that it would work on Butler Creek "Hot Lips and Steel Lips Mags Only". I don't have any of those, but do have the standard 10 round Ruger mag and two Ram Line 50 round mags, all of which can be loaded with this clever gadget. Here are my observations:
Pros - + Works Well; with practice this allows high capacity mags to be loaded quickly and easily + Easy to Use; just drop a handful of shells into the hopper, shake it gently, and turn the handle (slowly) + Saves Bruised Thumbs; manually loading high capacity mags is time consuming and is rough on the thumbs Cons - - Mostly Plastic; this feels like it is going to brake every time I use it... it hasn't but it likely would not take being abused - Malfunctioned; a loose round became trapped in the unit and, by playing with it, discovered an undocumented feature - the hopper is detachable from the loader section which allowed the round to be cleared - Favors Jacketed Rounds; soft tipped rounds can be deformed by the loading mechanism Overall I am thrilled that this works so well and it is worth taking a little time to learn the idiosyncrasies of this handy gadget. Recommended! CFH

Love this thing,
I have one of these and I can tell you for certain that it works wonderfully with the butler creek steel lips mags. They also are not too shabby on the factory rotary mags, as well. The design is light, but not chintzy, and it's very easy to use. After a few reloads you will be running it like a champ. Your thumbs will thank you. I can't vouch for how well any other make of clip will work in it, but if you find that the butler creek steel lip mags work well for you, you won't regret picking up one of these.

Nicely "automates" loading high capacity Ruger 10-22 mags. The Butler Creek 10-22 mag loader works perfectly.

I put this on a Ruger factory magazine and loaded ten rounds of federal ammunition, the loader dented the side of ever case and marred the bullet as well. I did not find it much quicker then loading by hand but it does save wear on your thumbs. I also loaded some CCI into a different magazine and those loaded without being damaged.

Loading clips usually meant that I would only load the clips a few times per outing and have sore thumbs. Now the shooting is unlimited. I can load the clips as fast as I can unload it with this device. Easy to use. Works on both plastic and steel butler creek 25 round clips and the stock 10 round clip. No more lead on fingers, so this is a must have item.

I had just bought a ruger 10/22 and gone out shooting a few times. Loading that little 10 round mag was ok but 10 rounds goes fast. I got a few 30 round mags and saw this loader on line. Watched a few you tube video's and was like I need this thing! Every time I go out to the range people are like hey what do you have there? Its awesome. It takes some time to learn how to work it but man its so much better than pushing 30 rounds in by hand.

I have one of the so called "Gatling Gun kits" which clamp two Ruger 10-22s together and fires four rounds with each turn of the crank. With a rig like this, you are going to spend a lot more time reloading than you are going to spend shooting, period. This handy little item cuts reloading time way down and prevents the dreaded "Gorilla Thumb." Love it! Giving it five stars because there is no way to give it six.
