Excellent Concept...BUT,

I purchased the Midnight Black Butter Bell in early June, 2006, and it worked fantastically well...until the weather got warmer. After a few 100+ degree days where the temperature inside the house was between 75-80 degrees, the butter would fall in a clump from the inverted bell into the water in the holding jar. I ended up putting the whole thing in the refrigerator anyway...which kind of defeats the purpose. I thought it might be the brand of butter I was using, but after trying different brands, I still experienced the same problem. However, I look forward to using the Butter Bell when the weather cools down a bit.

Soft butter all the time!,
By So far, it's been fantastic having soft butter all the time. This thing really works, and it's amazing (though maybe not always a good thing health-wise) how much more I use butter now that it's just convenient and there all the time. Before, it was just too much of a pain to either try to spread cold butter onto a piece of bread, or cut off just the right amount and put it in the microwave to heat it up. I ended up destroying lots of bread and wasting lots of butter. So I just quit using butter for the most part, instead switching to softer "spreads" that didn't taste as good. Now, though, I use butter all the time without thinking about it. Probably going to turn me into a fat person, but there's no comparison between margarine and butter on bread or a bagel. Butter just tastes better, and this is the best way to keep it ready for spreading. This is one of those products that makes you wonder why people ever stopped doing things this way. Sometimes the old ways really were better (and I say that as someone who is not very old!). Butter was meant to be stored at room temperature, not cold. And the only inconvenience to deal with is changing the water every three days (takes all of five seconds) and re-packing the butter when it runs out, which you probably won't be doing more than once a week. For me, that's far less hassle than dealing with broken bread or microwaves all the time.

I had bought this product hoping to settle the butter rage that surfaces every time someone has to try to spread hard butter on something. Alas it has not been our salvation. The butter falls out into the water every time I try to use it. I really don't see what I could do wrong, I measured the water, packed the butter tightly, tried different temps to no avail. During the times it has stayed in the bell it is wonderful, but I spent too much time fishing the butter out of the water and it is now relegated to a shelf in kitchen limbo.

Just Phenomenal!,

We've been using the red butterbell for about 6 months now. I haven't had the butter fall out ever. When the bell is empty, I wash it and the water reservoir with Dawn. When it's all dried off, I use the 1/4 sticks of butter they started selling, and it holds exactly 2. I let the butter reach room temperature, then unwrap the butter and push it into the bell with the butter wrapper. I make sure there are no air pockets (air is butter's enemy!!) Then I put fresh, cool water in the reservoir, put the bell down in there, and all is well with my butter. (My biggest problem is that my husband doesn't let me know it's about empty, and I end up using hard butter and washing the butter bell!)
I can understand how the butter might fall into the water if I was using it at the summer cabin - no air conditioning. I'd try breaking up a few ice cubes into the reservoir water to keep the butter a little cooler, but it would be a lot of extra work just to have soft butter. I usually buy some butter/margarine product that spreads soft from the fridge when we're at the cabin, and leave my bell at home.

I bought this butter crock after my old butter dish broke. This keeps butter fresh and is easy to use. The top acts like a handle and when you flip it over, the edge makes a nice knife rest. I run through the dishwasher between fillings. Very pleased.

This review is from: Butter Bell Crock, Antique Ivory Rose (Kitchen)
I ordered the Butter Bell Crock in Antique Ivory Rose and it looks great on a granite counter top in a modern kitchen. It has made cooking so much more convenient & quick without my having to microwave the butter out of the refrigerator. (No matter how carefully you do it, the zapped butter always has cold hard spots & hot melted spots.) Fresh butter is now always available in a spreadable form & this is especially nice for breakfast toast. The little crock holds exactly 1 stick of butter (bring the stick to room temp on the counter, then pack it into the Bell -- very easy). The Butter Bell is heavy & nice quality, well-finished with no rough edges. I run it thru the dishwasher occasionally, but that's probably not such a good idea as the gold gilt will probably wear off eventually. I routinely dump out the old water & put in fresh water every few days, but it only takes five seconds. The water in the Butter Bell stays clear & clean.

Everything the advertisers said about this product is true. It does keep my butter soft, and ready to use. No more ripped bread! It is also pretty on the table.

This is a great gadget EVERYONE who loves butter should have. Kept at the perfect temperature, butter is easily spread. No hard butter in this house anymore! That means no torn bread, no trying to slice butter thin enough so it will melt, just nice, smooth, yummy butter ready for all your cooking needs.

This is a great product if you like soft butter, cream cheese or margarine for your toast, bagels & muffins. It keeps the butter soft while potecting it from spoiling or separating.
