5.0 out of 5 stars gently poetic, May 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Like Butter on Pancakes (Viking Kestrel picture books) (Hardcover)
This book is really like an illustrated poem. It is so gentle and warm likes its title. It's about the sun rising and setting on an ordinary day in the country and of a small boy, his parents and the animals that live on the farm. "The sun ticks, The birds talk" are refraining lines throughout this story-poem.
Rhyme and rhythm carry the story and the accompanying illustrations are so beautiful and whimsical at once. Both parents and teachers of younger students will enjoy this, even teachers of poetry and creative writing or art teachers would appreciate the beauty of this wonderfully created book.
A MUST for your home or classroom library!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites!, October 24, 2008
This book is a joy to read aloud to my 3 1/2 year son. We checked it out of the library so many times that we ultimately purchased a copy. While the pictures are amazing, the gentle story and the carefully chosen words are what makes this book stand out. While Jonathan London's books may be rather inconsistent, this one is a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Do the pajama dance!, December 2, 2000

London captures the imagery of sunlight and moonlight as a child's day unfolds and awakens his senses to the world around him. One can almost hear the duet of the whistle of the teakettle and the sizzle of frying bacon as slippers "whisper" across the kitchen floor. This book begs to be read aloud, again and again. It is sheer poetry.
