Wish I could give it less than one star,

I've read every book in this series. They started off mildly entertaining, but they've been declining in quality since Play It Again, Spam. I've picked up the latest release each year, hoping that the quality would improve, but these hopes were always dashed. I'm not sorry to see this series end. I want the hours I spent reading this book back!

while this series has always had slapstick and slighty-incredible storylines, this latest (and last??) entry is just horribly absurd. In summary, it is rambling, sloppy and self-indulgent. There are none of the laugh-out-loud moments from earlier books in the series. I almost hope this IS the last, as Magdalena has just become a parody of herself. I read this entire series in the past 5 months and also have the Den of Antiquity series to read, but now I think I'll wait a while before tackling that series...

Don't know what is worse - the time wasted to read it or the money spent on buying it.
No plot to speak of, the intended "comic ramblings" do appear more to be more a product of a very sick mind. Very disappointing - I liked Magdalena in the earlier books - too bad that lack of literary prowess of her creator caused the heroin to loose any credibility at all. Magdalena is not credible in any aspect - as a mother, a wife, a detective. Even the recipes are downloaded from a website. The only positive aspect is that it would appear to be the end of this series: started out good - shame that it ends on such a low note.

Disappointing,

I've read the entire series and the last two books were disappointing. Good thing I just got them from the library. I certainly would have regretted paying for them. I got the sense of the author just wanting to hurry up and get it over with. It was sloppy and frankly I hope it is the end of the series. If it was the final installment it sure didn't go out "with a bang"

Disappointed ramblings,

I have read the entire series and although there have been some other disapointments, none was this bad. There are entire sections that have no link to the story, as though there was a requirement for word count by the publisher and a couple chapters thrown in. The author phoned this one in and it is a shame to end (either get a ghost writer or end it now) on such a flimsy edition. Sad. But as others have said or intimated, it makes it easy to say goodbye. Don't buy this one. But the recipes may be better than her other books since these come from a legitimate source. Even if they seem to have no meaning to the plot or characters.

So Sorry Ms. Myers (1/2 star is more like it),
This review is from: Butter Safe Than Sorry: A Pennsylvania Dutch Mystery (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to agree with the other poor Reviews given this book. I thought maybe it was just me & I was getting bored with the COZY MYSTERY genre. This story was so tedious & silly, had a hard time finishing reading it. The earlier books in this series were enjoyable.

I have a sinking feeling that this may be the last Magdelana Yoder book. The epilogue was a little too detailed. All in all I love this series, but this book was not the best. Without the antics of Melvin, Susanna, Freni, et al the book lost some of it's humorous apppeal. The book was good - don't get me wrong, and if we are lucky enough to get more books in the series I would certainly buy them, but some how this book was missing some of the old magic.

Writer lost her character,

I have read the entire series, and this last book was a joke. The writer lost the sense of who this well loved character was and what made her unique and special. The Magdalena Yoder in this book was simple-minded, bitter and unrecognizable. If you hate a character, as a writer, you should let your creation die with dignity - not write parodies and sell their shameful paper corpses like a book. The Epilogue was particularly idiotic.

What has happened to this series...,

I used to love this series and have read every book in it. I started getting a little tired of it a few books back and this book made me decide to not buy any more of the series. I thought the author would "fix" the problem somewhere and it would get better again, but alas, it hasn't. The main character has been getting too silly in last few books...this is the problem. She started out as humorous but has become tedious in her slapstick comedy ways. The plots are getting unbelievable as well. I can't give away the plot without doing a spoiler alert here but trust me, you will be aggravated with it also. And the ending...well, has the author decided to end the series or what? You don't do an ending like this if you want your readers to keep on reading the series. I'm really peeved over this ending.

While all of Myer's Yoder mysteries are over the top, Butter Safe Than Sorry is a parody of a cozy mystery. Every line is a joke. I used to enjoy her books, but this will be the last Myers book I buy.
