I had to wait 5 weeks for this book to get to me{out of print} & i'm glad Amazon could get it for me.I have just about every book this Author has made & i love them all.As long as you have a little bit of icing decorating experience you can use any of his books. The only reason i rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is because not all the pictures are in color. It does...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish I Had'nt Bought This Book
I wish I had'nt bought this book! My only excuse is that I needed some guidelines for decorating in buttercream, and after reading the reviews, thought this book might do the trick. I was mistaken.

I have given 2 stars, as the recipe is good (I have used it to create buttercream flowers learnt from other books), and the few colour photos look beautiful...

Alot of stuff in a thin book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish I Had'nt Bought This Book, November 23, 2007
This review is from: Buttercream Flowers and Arrangements (Paperback)
I wish I had'nt bought this book! My only excuse is that I needed some guidelines for decorating in buttercream, and after reading the reviews, thought this book might do the trick. I was mistaken.

I have given 2 stars, as the recipe is good (I have used it to create buttercream flowers learnt from other books), and the few colour photos look beautiful. However, as a teaching aid, there just is'nt enough detail to help the reader achieve what is shown. What is there is sketchy at best, with no clear instructions to help overcome problems a learner would face. The book is too thin for the price...it just feels like everything is condensed and crammed in.

This book may help if you are already an accomplished buttercream artist, like the author, but definitely not if you're looking to learn something new. Winbeckler is'nt into giving away too many secrets in his book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great reference book..., January 17, 2008

I purchased this book in November looking for ideas to decorate a cake for a Christmas party. The concepts and designs are beautiful, however, I found that the instructions were not very easy to follow. I could not recreate some of the flowers which were illustrated. Apart from that, I love the way he layout his designs.

Wish I could have seen a few pages that were in the book. Directions for making the flowers were hard to see, and not easy to understand. There are directions on how to make an orchid out of buttercream, that I have never seen before. This would have been worth the book, wish it was more detailed. Everything else is in other books, and I would not have bought it if I were in a book store.

I am taking a icings flower class from a bakery/cake supply shop. This is a suggested book, so I bought it. Waste of money. I did not read that it was only 34 pages. Every cake is based on the oval you see on the front. Just different beautiful flowers on each one. Very little teaching at all. The teaching is in black and white, too. I should not have bought this book. I am taking my second decorating class. This book seems like someone experienced would use. For the amount of money, you can find a book with alot more ideas.

P.S Anybody taking any kind of cake decorating class should take them from a bakery/cake supply shop. It will be ten times more beneficial than the Michael's or Hobby Lobby's Wilton classes.

After having made the icing recommended for the decorations, I was able to really see a dramatic improvement in my decorating. Roland Winbeckler's books and video on writing on cakes and color mixing are the best. The books are really pamphlets but they are packed with information. You have to follow his instructions and practice, practice, practice. My family and friends are more impressed than ever with my beautiful cakes.

This book is great for Butter cream icing lovers. Amazing designs and techniques. But will work best for people who have some knowledge and are handy with butter cream application. It is not a step by step book, but great for getting new ideas and flower arrangements. If you have a background doing butter cream and you have this book, you can improvise great designs. Not recommended for newly starting folks.

I thought this book was great. I have taken a decorating class which included some of Winbeckler's flowers. This book expands on that class. With some practice I think I can easily follow his directions to create beautiful flowers for my cakes.
