5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monthly Pregnancy Journal

I bought Butterflies and Hiccups recently and I was really disappointed when it arrived. I am returning it becuase I really didn't want to journal my pregnancy (e.g. symptoms, weight gain, etc.) as much as I wanted to have a journal for my future child to read about our life during the pregnancy, feelings about expecting him/her, etc., and our life before him/her.

Some of the "thought-provoking" questions in the book, such as "Was the conception of the baby memorable? Why or why not?" I thought might be kind of embarrasing for baby to read.

Most of the questions are just about recording the day-to-day symptoms of pregnancy, doctors appointments, weight gain, etc.
and the questions are standard month-to-month.

There is also not much room to write about any of the questions that are interesting. There is an extra blank space at the end of each month, but it really didn't seem like a lot of room to write beyond the standard questions asked each month.

Again, I really didn't want to document for my child the aches and pains of pregnancy -- whether I got stretch marks and how much weight I gained. I do want to include pictures of how big my belly gets (which is a nice feature that they do have in the book), but don't really want to share so many details about the bodily aspects of preganncy.

I was looking for something that does share some of the highlights of the pregnancy (e.g. when I found out, first movements, ultrasound, etc.), but mostly concentrate on feelings and recording our 'story.'

If you are looking for something that really documents the symptoms of pregnancy, doctor's appointments, etc., perhaps for recalling for subsequent pregnancies, then this book would be perfect for you.
Otherwise, I would keep looking.

I wanted a "pregnancy" journal to document key events during my pregnancy and found exactly what I was looking for in Butterflies & Hiccups. Initially, I considered a "daily" journal but in reviewing some of the pregnancy journals online, I was impressed with Butterflies & Hiccups. It is a "monthly" journal, which really turned out to be perfect... daily would have been overkill, especially since there are many days that pass where there's really nothing to document. This journal has excellent preprinted questions as well a blank page for each month for documenting additional information, perhaps not covered by the preprinted questions. Each month, the journal covers topics such as changes/symptoms, doctor visits, and has a page for placing a photo to track pregnancy progress (and more). It goes up to nine months then continues on to the "Birth" with a checklist of what to pack in the hospital bag, preprinted birth questions, a photo page for picture with baby, a page for baby info (name, date/time of birth, height/length, etc). It also contains a section to document the Baby Shower. The journal contains a 'Baby Keepsake' pocket, perfect for holding ultrasound pictures. There's also an attached ribbon bookmarker so that you can go straight to the page where you left without having to flip through the journal... and it's spiral bound. Highly recommended PREGNANCY journal... this is NOT a BABY journal.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy! There's nothing out there like this., October 12, 2002
This review is from: Butterflies & Hiccups: A Guided Pregnancy Journal (Spiral-bound)
I am the owner of Baby Gift Store.com and we couldn't wait to add this wonderful pregnancy journal. I've yet to see anything similar and it is absolutely just beautiful.. both design wise and content wise. Butterflies and Hiccups is just full of intelligent and thought provoking questions to fascillitate the journaling of your pregnancy day by day and month by month. I also love that it has a keepsake pocket built into the font cover to hold any kind of little pregnancy momentos such as pictures of your sonograms. And, it doesn't stop there...it also includes checklists for getting ready for the hospital, tips and suggestions for pregnant moms and places to paste photos. I also love that it is spiral bound to make writing easy. It's so well thought out and will certainly be a forever keepsake. We can't recommmend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book!, April 20, 2004

This journal is so wonderful. I am 8 weeks into my second pregnancy, and I wish I had this two and a half years ago with my first child. It is broken down by each month, and in addition to the thought starters, there is plenty of room for notes. I've learned a couple of things since my first pregnancy (and this journal has places to note the things I didn't note the first time around), such as exactly when I started wearing maternity clothes. Also, in the extra space I am writing about current events, so that when I look back in a few years I can remember exactly what was going on while I was pregnant. I also love that it has pockets and a place each month to put a photo of my belly, another thing I didn't think to do the first time around. I can't wait to fill it out as my pregnancy progresses. I would recommend this book to anybody in any pregnancy. Matter of fact, I wish I had this exact journal the first time around so I could compare notes.

No other time in my life has been as special as the times when I was pregnant. Butterflies and Hiccups beautifully illustrates the journey into motherhood, allowing YOU to be the author! Special moments and events can be recorded, safely to be remembered through the years. And what a wonderful gift to give to your baby when they are grown, but to read about your thoughts and feelings during the time they were growing inside of you. Laurie Wing captures the sweet essence of this special time with Butterflies and Hiccups. A must-have book for every mommy-to-be!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE SPACE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE, May 27, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Butterflies & Hiccups: A Guided Pregnancy Journal (Spiral-bound)
THE SPACE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS JOURNAL. MOST DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPACE TO WRITE DOWN ALL OF THE THOUGHTS A MOM TO BE ENCOUNTERS. I BOUGHT THIS AS IT WAS SUGGESTED IN A NEWSPAPER COLUMN WRITTEN BY PARENTING EXPERT, JODIE LYNN, AUTHOR OF MOMMY CEO. SHE WAS RECOMMENDING BABY SHOWER GIFTS AND THIS WAS ONE OF THE JOURNALS SHE ESPECIALLY LIKED. IT'S GREAT WHEN FAMILY EXPERTS PUT THEIR STAR OF APPROVAL ON VARIOUS PRODUCTS ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A FOLLOWER OF THEIR OWN WRITING. THIS IS MY THIRD BABY AND I WISH LYNN'S PARENTING BOOK AND LAURIE'S JOURNAL WAS AROUND THEN. I DID GET FOUR BABY JOURNALS FOR MY SHOWER, BUT THIS WAS BY FAR THE BEST ONE.

Laurie Wing's Pregnancy Journal came highly recommended and after my review of the journal, I see why. Laurie has captured all of the moments one experiences during pregnancy in a warm and sensitive way. It provides the Mother-to-be with a step by step guide through each phase of pregnancy and details much needed information; particularly if you're a first time Mom. I have presented this journal as gifts to several friends and family members and have received rave reviews. I have since ordered additional copies to keep on hand. A wonderful Keepsake!!!

It was such a neat gift to receive Butterflies and Hiccups. I am not one to journal, but with 2 boys and number 3 on the way, it will be helpful to put some of my thoughts down on paper so I will always have the memory. I highly recommend this journal to all pregnant mothers!

I was very happy when I finally received my journal. I used it during the full nine months of my pregnancy and it even has a section for after you give birth. This is just so that you can always look back and remember how you felt during every stage of your pregnancy. It does take time to fill out because it is so detailed but that is exactly what I like about it, the details that sometimes we take for granted.
