This is one of the many charted book from the Lindberg Press Archives in the Dover Needlework Series. These are very functional books but they have their drawbacks. To keep the costs down, color pictures are at a premium. The butterflies shown are very realistic so I assume all the species are as well. (See the upper right hand corner on the front cover--just stylized.) I give it 5 stars, however, because it's a great value.

I added images above showing the color plates included. I don't know about you, however, but for me if there's no photo, it's hard for me to visualize. I like it that in the back of the book is a conversion chart for 6-strand floss colors of DMC, Mouline, and Anchor. To give you an idea of size, the monarch butterfly on the front cover has a stitch count of 150 x 132 including the leaves. If you stitch on 14-count aida or 28-count linen over 2, this is about 10 x 9 ½ inches. The smallest butterflies are about 15 x 20 stitches. Unfortunately, the largest project, the centerpiece with cabbage butterflies is not pictured and only given in ¼ graph. While it looks relatively easy and uses 13 floss colors, it's about 280 x 280 stitches and is a large circle with open center (which you could fill with other butterflies if you chose). You'll want to be careful what fabric count to stitch on and count carefully.
