5.0 out of 5 stars Terrifyingly Superb!
Wow! No wonder this book has won so many awards (including the 2001 EPPIE and Independent Publisher Awards). This book is terrifying, just as a horror should be. An original story - just when I thought I knew where it was leading, the author threw me a loop and had me on the edge of my seat! A chilling, fast-paced and fascinating read.!

I read every glittering review, thinking wow this book must really be worth $20. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The prologue was very promising, but immediately after that it changed its tone and became just another mainstream novella. The two main characters are sketched out only slightly, and there's not enough description of the house, events or ancillary characters to keep it interesting. By Chapter 14, more than 1/2-way through the book, I kept waiting for something to happen. If you want a good old-fashioned scare, stick to the master of the genre, Steven King. I will be selling this book on Amazon to try to recover some of the money I wasted on this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get Ready for a Spook, December 19, 2001
By
Tonya Ramagos (Chattanooga, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Butterfly House (Paperback)
Jackson Rutledge and Sabrina Osterling are total strangers but an ad in a newspaper for a house "musty, dusty, and guaranteed haunted" sends them both rushing to the real estate office. Both have their own personal reasons for their interest in the house. Jackson's easy going personality instantly makes him a likable character. He doesn't believe in ghosts but sees the House as the perfect setting for his future plans. Sabrina is different, weird, more aggressive and obsessed with the past. Her belief in the supernatural has brought her to the House for answers. But the House has other plans for Jackson and Sabrina.

Time is the essence in The Butterfly House. T.K. Sheils will spook and horrify you with his story line and picture-painting description. You will realize just how precious time is and yet how we all take the present for granted. The evil of The Butterfly House will grip you, pull you in, and glue you to your seat while scaring you beyond belief.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a great story, October 25, 2009
This review is from: Butterfly House (Paperback)
I read this story a few years back and it got me hooked on Sheils. I just love his writing style! I was so happy to be able to find it over on Fictonwise (on sale for under $4.00) and now I have it on my Kindle. I can't wait to read it again as I still find myself trying to find other books that hold me as Sheils does. This one won't disapoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deserves Its Awards, May 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Butterfly House (Paperback)
No wonder this book won the Independent Publisher Award for Best Horror, and the EPPIE Award in the same category! BUTTERFLY HOUSE is an entertaining read from page one to the finish. Part mystery, part horror--with the occasional quirky joke to break the tension--BUTTERFLY HOUSE is a great novel. This book made me surprised to find out that I like horror novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Butterfly House is a Chilling Read!, May 11, 2004
By
Dee Lloyd (Toronto Ontario) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Butterfly House (Paperback)
Butterfly House - this Eppie and Independent Publishers Book Award winner is filled with icy horror.
Two very different and incompatible people, Jackson Rutledge and Sabrina Osterling, saw the ad for the haunted house and arrived separately at the same time at the Realtor's. As neither could afford the house on their own, but determined to own the house described as "musty, dusty, and guaranteed haunted", they agreed to co-purchase the house.
They believed that living in separate wings and sharing the common area of the main portion of the house they could live independently. However, when
unexplained things begin to happen they have to turn to each other.

Do you believe a house could be a living thing?
Most people would not, but those who have gotten to know the Hanley House would insist that the house was not only alive, but also a thing of fathomless evil. A voracious evil that lives to destroy, distorting perceptions, waiting patiently for someone. The man and woman living in the house now, however, are not the awaited ones; they don't belong and are a threat to it. Do Jackson and Sabrina have a chance against such evil? Not if the house's history is any indication.

BUTTERFLY HOUSE is a chilling read. Author T. K. Sheils has taken a weird and wonderful journey through twisted and convoluted time to terrify the reader,
BUTTERFLY HOUSE is a book that will make you leave the
light on while reading and give you nightmares in spite of yourself.
