Great music from some great artists.,

I was lucky enough to order this cd months before it was comercially available. I have been able to listen to it hundreds of times and I can tell you that it is a great album I will never get sick of. For those of you who are familiar with the Dead Milkmen, Joe Genaro and Dean Sabitino were members, now they along with Joe Quigly and Anday Bresnan are Butterfly Joe. butterfly Joe has a unique style that is catchy, yet it varies to give a uniqueness to eash song. This album is Absolutely amazing!

NOT for Dead Milkmen Fans Only,
By A Customer

I must disagree with the review for this album which states that only Dead Milkmen fans could appreciate this album. Though Joe's voice is an obvious carryover, and Dean's drumming still carries the rhythm, the musical talents of Andy Bresnan and Joe Quigley bring a new dimension to the sound. Claiming that fans must like one band in order to appreciate the other is tantamount to saying that only Faith No More fans would appreciate Mr. Bungle, or that only Pixies fans would like the Breeders. This quirky album is great for anyone who enjoys music with a sense of humor and carefree attitude.

Wow!,

I'm listening to "Little Pill" as I write this, it's outstanding. I usually don't like really music with really high production values, but this is pure goodness. There's so much here!!!

Not sure why it took five years to get around to writing my review, but it needs to be recognized.
This is an outstanding album. Yes, I bought it as a long, long time fan of The Dead Milkmen, but this is not just an extension that band. The songs on this album are instantly stuck in your head and there's not a bad one. Simply beautiful. Thank you for this album, Joe.

2 ex-Dead Milkmen emerge from cocoon as Butterfly Joe,

According to Joe Genaro, lead singer of Butterfly Joe (aka: Joe Jack Talcum, ex-Dead Milkmen) his dad smokes PCP and tells him that he's ugly. This line from "Fancy Walls," like so many other quirky lines, should trigger the fact that the lyricist behind the epic "Punk Rock Girl" has returned with his sardonic pen in tow. While this album is a no-brainer for all us Dead Milkmen fans (drummer Dean "Clean" Sabotino returns as well), it actually treads new territory with Big Mess Orchestra's multi-instrumentalist Andy Bresnan in the bunch. You never heard a Milkmen song with an accordion fill. Sounding more like Ween than Mojo Nixon this time around, anything goes. From the Herman Melvillesque romantic "Whale in the Sea" to the youthful invincibility of "Seventeen," and from the folksy "Autumn Leaves" to the Oompa-loompa sounding "Honey Jar" finding Bresnan on tuba, this album should NOT go unheard.

Great, but could've been better.,
This review is from: Butterfly Joe (Audio CD)
Face it, Joe is a great song writer. Songs like "Little Pill", "Fancy Walls", and "Give Me A Kiss" prove that he can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of 'em (although Joe might have to stand on a chair - he IS only 5 foot two, after all). I do have a problem with the "upbeat" songs ("What did her Autopsy reveal","Honey Jar", etc.). Joe, you are NO LONGER in the Dead Milkmen. You are now free to write nothing but great songs. Do that and your next CD will be Manna From Heaven.
