Finally the perfect evening to finish reading Butterfly! The temperature dropped twenty degrees in three hours and the rain is pouring. Oregon weather at it's best! Curled up on the couch, my wet cat that has just come in from the rain, beside me.

Dear Kathleen, how much of Butterfly is you? Or should I say 'Kathleen is Butterfly'!
Many times my thoughts drifted away from the book, triggered by something I just read. I remembered my childhood surrounded by loving family members. My great grandmother, who had to step in trying to raise two small little girls lovingly and selflessly. Me, at age 10, holding her hand while she took her last breaths. Her female friends who stayed the night with us beside the open casket. Who helped us washing her and dressing her for her final journey. The phone call I received when my beloved uncle passed. He had finished my great grandmothers job, helping me through my teenage years and nursing school. I couldn't be there when he was dying, since I was in the last Trimester of my pregnancy. My family waited to call until after the funeral, afraid I might take the next plane to Europe. My sister told me on the phone that she threw a bouquet of red roses down on his casket for me......
Bridget has everything a woman could want, or does she? Sometimes one has to give up everything to gain more. Comforted by her family, the ones alive and the ones who have passed, but are still there to guide her, we watch Bridget become the woman that "walks with the angels amongst us". I felt sad when she was lonely. I smiled with her when she laughed through her tears of sorrow, and I cheered her on during the times she was filled with thoughts of self doubt.

The day Butterfly arrived in the mail and I sat it aside until the next day. So that I could devote my full attention to it! And then... after the children were off to school and my morning work was done, I curled up on my sunny window seat bench with a cup of coffee... and read it straight through. I simply could not put it down! Not even when I went to refill my cup! I stumbled and bumbled my way through the house with my nose stuck in the book as I went! LOL Butterfly was very moving, at times it was light and funny and at other times heart wrenching. I found myself emotionally attached to Bridget in just the first few pages! It is an inspiring and uplifting story! I strongly recommend this book! It is a wonderful read! Mary Ryburn/Artist

Thank you so much Kathleen! Butterfly is an amazing read. From page 1 I was transported into Bridget's life! I felt as if I was there in the room with the Flynn family. It was an amazing feeling to feel the strong love that this family shared. While it is a work of fiction, Bridget dealt with many issues that I have felt. Death is written for everyone but for those left behind must deal with the loss. It's hard. While reading Butterfly I was able to take comfort in what I read. Thank you, again Kathleen. I will recommend this book to everyone! ..

She makes the reader cry at every painful event, laugh at the good memories and makes you want Bridget to find the happiness she deserves. What a strong woman......and what a fantastically wonderful read! I highly recommend Butterfly!!

I found Butterfly to be an intensely personal, emotional and deeply spiritual story of a journey - a journey of fulfillment, of discovery, of the living of life. We are invited into the world of Bridget Flynn, where her life takes an unexpected turn at an early age, but where each life event pulls weight and contributes to the wholeness of the person she becomes. As Bridget herself discovers, "At her Mother's grave Bridget finally saw that everything that happens to someone in their life plays a role in shaping the person they will ultimately become. It is not the events in a life but how a person chooses to respond to them that defines who they really are."

And Bridget responds to those events with determination, courage, compassion and a marvelous spirituality! Threading through her story are the memory of her dear departed brother who strengthens her, a miraculous butterfly, intensely spiritual and powerfully illuminative dreams. The thread of family is woven through it all as a foundation as she follows her dream to her destiny - while always maintaining those family connections. Butterfly is a marvelous story of finding self, and of a deep resolve to maintain that path. It is a book which sings to the soul. It has a powerful ending which completes a circle of healing that I found just breathtaking! It is a book you just have to read if you enjoy stories about a triumph of the spirit! I couldn't put it down, and read it all in one sitting, gladly neglecting other things I had planned for that day!
