Delightfully trashy!,
By KC "KC" (CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Butterfly (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is just a terrific read. From the first page, Ms. Harvey just draws you into the worlds of not only the main character, but the subplots are pretty enticing, as well. This book, along with the sequel, "Stars" (which you MUST read if you have read this book, and vice versa) are on my permanent summer reading list - books I re-read each year. Love, lust, revenge, redemption - it's all here. One of the best things about these books is that there is a sense of closure once you complete both volumes, unlike many novels which seem to end before the story is complete. Highly recommended!

Like Revenge? Best Ending Ever!!,
By
This review is from: Butterfly (Mass Market Paperback)
I first read this book back in 1999 and recently dusted it off and read it again. One of my favorites to date.
The main character, Beverly Highland has a such a hard and terrible childhood that you find yourself rooting for her and almost clapping for her towards the end. She's a woman that every woman can identify with on some level and you watch her grow up, get smart and concoct the BEST revenge you could ever imagine. She goes from being homely and timid to being strong, ambitious, shrewd, smart, plotting and a real diva. Sure wish there was a "Butterfly" club where I live! Reading this book was cake and the ending was the icing. Women of the world: Read this book! It will make you feel stronger and even inspire you to do better for yourselves.

This one deserves to be a movie!!!,

I read this book (the first time) when I was 16 and have loved it ever since. I have reread it I can't remember how many times. I've recommended, loaned, and even re-purchased Butterfly several times over. Everyone that I know that's read it loves it. It even hooked some of my male friends and relatives. This book has all the makings of what would be a FABULOUS movie! If they could manage to get the right, meaning belivable cast, it would surpass "9 1/2 Weeks" and "Basic Instinct" combined. Hopefully one day some producer or director or studio somebody will stumble or completely fall for this and let it come to 'real' life. If someone ever does, I'll not only pay the outrageous price at the box office, I'll get the dvd, video, pay-per-view, and see it played countless times on HBO, Showtime, and or Cinamax!!! If you haven't read it do so, NOW! And while your at it, pick up its sister book "Stars". Either way, you'll never put them down, and you'll never think about fiction the same way again!

One of my all-time favorites,
This review is from: Butterfly (Mass Market Paperback)
After a young Danny Mackay made runaway Rachel an underage prostitute and then left her for dead, she's determined to see to it that he gets what he deserves. She gets a job as a short order cook in modest restaurant and draws crowds with her special hamburger recipe. With new self-assurance, she talks a plastic surgeon into reconstructing her unattractive face for free, and returns to make the restaurant turn into a thriving fast food chain. And all this time, she's cutting news clips on Danny Mackay, who becomes a famous evangelist. The ending is gripping. Ten years after I first read it, I still never get tired of reading how the beautiful, rich, and powerful Beverly Highland, once the homely and desperate Rachel, gives Danny Mackay what he's got coming to him. You'll want to read it again and again, and then order "Stars" for the finale.

Flawless!,

Butterfly surprised me! It turned out to be one of the most engrossing books I have ever read. The beginning hooked me right away, and throughout the plot there is never a dull moment. This is one of those novels where you have a lot of details to keep track of, and every one is beautifully wrapped up at the end. The main character is someone you will root as she goes from one hurdle to the next, while the antogonist will turn out to be one of the nastiest villians you've ever encountered! The pace of the novel remains at a high, and never lets down the reader. It prompted me to read its sequel, Stars. I'm amazed Kathryn Harvey doesn't continue writing. Butterfly was a terrific read!

Must read for all women!,

This book is one that never got the credit it deserved. But there isn't a woman who read it that didn't want to pass it on to another woman who also passed it on. This is a book that has become an icon within the sisterhood that exist among women.

I have read this book so many times, I actually had to go out and buy a new one, because the first one I had fell apart! No kidding! I love it, and I'll probably read it a hundred more times. It gives the feeling of power to all women, not just the main character. It shows what true friendships are all about and keeping true to yourself. Whenever I'm down, I just pick it up and read it. I'm 22, and I only hope that someday I could make as much of my life as the main character did with hers. It's and inspiration. I hope Kathryn wrote more novels. And if you loved this book, "Stars" is a definite, you have to read what happens!!! It's a thrilling continuation of Butterfly.

Intriguing, compelling, I couldn't put it down!!,

This is a smut book with a plot. The twists and turns keep you guessing to the very last page. The intricate way in which several different storylines all weave together is absolutely brilliant, I kept turning back to reread past chapters only to reabsorb each juicy detail. I read this for the first time about 8 years ago, and my paperback copy is so worn I may have to replace it! If you start this one, be prepared for the housework to suffer, you will not want to interrupt this amazing story of deception, lust, greed, passion, and sex aplenty!
