Book Description

January 22, 2009
Butterfly Kisses is a spirit-filled tale of destiny about two little girls. They were both 10 years old; they lived right across the street from one another and they were the best of friends. Dana is white and kept her hair in two long blond ponytails. Kayla is black and her hair was always shiny and filled with lots of bows. These young, innocent girls found themselves in the company of a neighbor who began to prey upon them, allowing the girls to play at his house as long as they let him "play" along. He filled his home with dolls and snacks, knowing that the unattended children would come. But, when one of the girls became missing, so did the bad neighbor. Kayla's mother oblivious to her neglect, Dana's mother is a workaholic and in denial. These children will be made closer to God, by the grace of God...in one way or another.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mysterious Disappearances, December 1, 2009
This review is from: Butterfly Kisses (Paperback)
In this novel the story revolves around the main character, Detective Angela Gray and her

newly acquired home.

Detective Gray discovers that there is an unsolved mystery in her own neighborhood - the

mysterious disappearance of a neighbor's young daughter, Kayla. As Angela begins to

investigate the disappearance of the little girl she finds that the mother of the girl is of no

help and blames the little girl's best friend, Dana. Dana is too scared and doesn't want to

relive the day her best friend disappeared. Eventually, Angela learns that the case was

never solved, is still open and moves to close the case quickly. She soon discovers that

there was more to the disappearance than anyone expected.

The man who previously lived in Angela's house, where the girls played all the time,

moved shortly after the disappearance. As the evidence starts to reveal itself, Angela

finds herself more and more involved in the case and the lives of those living in her

neighborhood.

This story started out slowly but it began to speed up midway through and I enjoyed the

interaction of the characters.

Detective Angela Gray is a good character, she was very relatable. The mystery

surrounding the little girl Kayla was slightly suspenseful. The plot was good though it

needed a little more development.

Overall, the author wrote a very good story though there were areas in the story that

lagged a little and could have used a bit more substance. Hopefully we will see Detective Angela Gray again in another mystery.

3.0 out of 5 stars AAMBC Book Reviews, November 16, 2009
This review is from: Butterfly Kisses (Paperback)
To lose a child is horrific. To lose your child and not know if she is dead or alive is even more horrifying than actually knowing the truth. Mrs. Jordan knew what that felt like when her young daughter Kayla disappeared from their neighborhood. It was plenty of whispers and rumors circulating, but no one had any solid answers and Kayla's best friend Dana wasn't talking. Things were still a mystery and the case had gone cold until Agent Gray moved into the number one suspect's home, not knowing its history. When weird things started to happen, like seeing the little missing girl in Agent Gray's back yard, she immediately went to her neighbors to ask if the little girl wouldn't come by so often and that day she learned that what she saw was not Kayla but her spirit. After making sure she wasn't crazy by seeking spiritual advice from her pastor, she was determined to get to the bottom of little Kayla's disappearance.

Butterfly Kisses was a story of mystery. It made you want to know what happen just for the sake of knowing the truth, but not because new leads kept you guessing. The book wasn't easy to follow and it kept me going back a couple times to see if I missed a sentence, because at times it jumped to another topic. It was kind of difficult because at times I didn't know who was speaking because it would move to the next line before the person speaking was done. It didn't have a lot of grammar mistakes which was a plus and with a new typeset and consistency this would be a better read. Selena Winston has a good story on her hands and with just hint of more mystery; Butterfly Kisses will be good to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Story of faith, July 22, 2009

This story is such a wonderful example of how faith will get you through even the hardest times. The tragedy that happened to Dana and Kayla needed someone with faith to come along and help them. Angela Gray was the strong, faithful person that God sent to help solve the mystery. I felt such strong emotions as I read this book. A very similar tragedy happened in our community and I feel this story was written to help people use their faith to cope with tragedy. I feel God used Selena to write this story for all of us to turn to Him in faith when we need Him.
