5.0 out of 5 stars Smoothjazz.com Review, February 16, 2007
By
This review is from: Butterfly Legs (Audio CD)
Twin Cities guitarist Boday once again comes through radiantly, with an engaging collection of totally listenable Smooth Jazz tunes on his 4th album, BUTTERFLY LEGS. From the eight enticing originals, co-written with his musical compatriot Tom Behr, to four well-chosen covers, Boday shows once again that he clearly gets what today's Smooth Jazz is all about; and he delivers his music, as always, with superb musicianship, panache and sparkling production. Running down the tracks for you, the ones that keep coming up for me as favorites include the gentle and lyrical "Brite Nites," his tasty re-do of Sade's "Hang On To Your Love," the delightful title track, the ever-so sultry "Me and Mrs. Jones," the entrancing "Six To Twelve" (the first radio single), and of course his cool take on the late James Brown's immortal "I Feel Good." Actually, taken as a whole, BUTTERFLY LEGS is a savory auditory gumbo that beautifully illustrates how well Boday has merged his varied musical influences over the years. It's a well-paced album that includes a bounty of warm, lyrical melodies and alluring rhythms. I've long been a fan of this guy's work, and am pleased to recommend his latest offering as yet another venerable example of why he is affectionately referred to as "the Midwest's Smooth Jazz Artist." ~SCOTT O'BRIEN
