I stumbled across this book on Goodreads. I couldn't believe it was only $ .99! Worth a lot more in my opinion! This book was like Sweet Home Alabama & The Notebook all rolled into one beautiful love story! I cried my eyes out at the end. One of my new favorites! A must read!

Simple and enjoyable. Those two words are probably the best ways to describe Butterfly Weeds. It's a simple love story that takes you on an enjoyable journey while Julia attempts to figure out her life. While reading the book, I could really tell that Laura put her heart into this book. She was able to project things in ways that made you want to keep reading, and have a great time following the characters in the book. Laura is a fantastic writer, and you will see that when you read this book. It was a fairly quick book to read, and it didn't lack at all in any department.

We've all seen stories similar to this be it in other books or movies. I actually had a movie pop into my head while reading this because it had a somewhat similar plot line. But it's cases like this there you have stories like this where it falls on the authors to really make it their own and add their own voice and flare into it. I really do feel like Laura was able to accomplish this. Following Julia was a lot of fun, seeing the choices she made and having that insight as to why she made those choices she did. I think another thing that really helped was that the places Laura wrote in for Julia as far as places she went, were also places that Laura has visited throughout her life. So in a way, you have the author projecting her life through this fictional story, and that is always really awesome. Little things like that really allow you to connect with the book and the author more than you normally would.

I really enjoyed the characters. You have Julia and Will which are extremely cute together in the beginning of the book, and then things kind of go out from there.

I want sparks, passion, romance, humor... you know what would really be nice too? Dialogue. I'll start there.

Another reviewer wrote that she felt like she was constantly in Julia's head; agreed. There is way too much inner monologue and VERY little conversation between characters. If you think about it, it's through character interaction that we decide if we like them based off what kind of personalities they have and then eventually we grow to feel for them.

Julia and Will were completely vanilla in my eyes. This is because even when there was dialogue, it was off-key; I had this perpetual feeling that I was reading conversations amongst strangers through the entire book. It didn't often get out of the "small-talk zone" for me. There were the "Hi-how-are-you" conversations, which I personally save for coworkers and acquaintances.

In a love story, it's an author's job to sell you on why these people SHOULD be together. Why he is her life and not just a chapter in it (and vice versa). In other books, I've read so many different reasons characters were meant for each other or why that one person played a unique role that could never be replicated. Here? The selling point was that they were together in high school. Oh, and it's a small town. That's it, folks. The small town living can't sell me on their teen love alone. I want to see obstacles that they've overcome together, lifesaving, redemption, sacrifice, etc. =; you don't get that in this book. Very one dimensional. Also, they have to have the most anticlimactic break up I've ever read.

I want to use another character in a book as an example, Jude, from "Crash" and "Clash" by Nicole Williams. Hopefully many of you are familiar with it.

...frustrating. I loved the idea behind the book, but I just couldn't get into it. The characters, especially Will, are beautifully written, BUT...I wished there was more dialogue. I also loved the history between Julia and Will, but I wanted more...current. I felt like I was CONSTANTLY in Julia's head, and after a while I wanted to strangle the author. I literally found myself scanning and skipping page after page after page because Julia had to think and think and overthink EVERYTHING.

That being said, the author has amazing potential and I WILL read her future books.

I bought this book because of the price and the rating. However, the book had numerous grammatical and syntax errors. However, the largest failing was the lack of character development and poor plot premise. Time flies in the book without having experienced a real connection with the characters, of which there are few.

I feel like this book led me on. I was waiting....waiting...and waiting for something major to happen and it never did. Well until the end but it wasn't what I expected. I grew to despise Julia and became a bit empathetic in the end but still, I really really did not like her. She so did not deserve Will in my opinion. I did like this book overall though. The author did keep me reading and in the end, even though it didn't go as I thought it would, did surprise me and make me feel intensely. Very touching ending.
