From the Publisher

The 2006 Hans Christian Andersen Medal for Illustration recognizes one of the great innovators and experimenters of contemporary children’s book illustration. Wolf Erlbruch masters an array of artistic registers, is as at home citing and combining artistic styles of the 19th and 20th centuries as he is inventing new ways to reach out to children of all ages. Sometimes simple and elemental, at other times dense and intricate, he is always playful, humorous, and philosophical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never give up on your dreams, July 8, 2007

This review is from: The Butterfly Workshop (Paperback)
What a wonderful message to send to our young readers. I read this book aloud for three nights running to my 5 and 9 year old children. They were both captivated and completely "got it." The illustrations are quirky and beautiful, and the message is one that children can never hear too often---don't let others define you or your dreams...have confidence and conviction...and you will succeed.

I am a big fan of Wolf Erlbruch and this book shows off his artistic talent nicely. The story is bound to please young children who may wonder where things in Nature come from. It's a treat for young artists and inventors too, who will see how the young, impassioned protagonist perseveres against the odds. The pictures lend a kind of multicultural flavor to the story as well.
