I just wish there would be a Buttmen 4, but it's been awhile and I don't think it's happening. I enjoyed all 3 issues of Buttmen, I know you will too if you have that admiration and love for the male backside!

Websters defines serendipity as "the aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident," and traces its origins back to the (fictional) isle of Serendip in the British fantasist Horace Walpole's Gothic oeuvre. Myself, I illustrate serendipity by remembering the day I stumbled across BUTTMEN3, a large collection of racy stories from divers hands all with a common theme. I don't know why I found myself reading this one so carefully, jotting down my favorite plot points and strongly drawn characters, all while using one hand, but there I was, my cares and woes forgotten, nearly panting with sheer exhilaration, when I came across one story, "Collaboration," by the young UK writer Thom Wolf. Not the same Tom Wolfe who wrote about "The Right Stuff," nor yet the older modernist novelist who gave us LOOK HOMEWARD, ANGEL, though he is an angel by an amazing coincidence. In "Collaboration," I, Kevin Killian, a middle-aged California novelist, travel across the seven seas to visit England for the very first time, and I make my way up to County Durham, where Thom Wolf lives. In the hours before my visit Thom takes his time, obsessing over his body and stripping before a mirror in order to survey once again, the most attractive part of his anatomy. "He squatted over the mirror, opening the dark crack. He loved the look of it."

Indeed when i finally got a look at it, that color of dark honey entranced me like a wizard's spell. "Thom gazed at the reflection of his arse and wondered what Kevin would think. There was no reason for him not to like it. But would he love and cherish it? Kevin was getting on a bit. Was he still interested in men under thirty? What sane man isn't? --A straight one. Kevin's not straight. --but he's married. I can take him," Thom boasts, trying to bolster his own self-confidence. I can't reveal any spoilers here but don't worry, you are reading BUTTMEN 3 here and not a volume of Alice Munro stories. As I read the piece and remembered this perfect visit to England "collaborating" with Thom Wolf, I was glad to see it included in this volume as a sort of "aide-memoire" to other, more private reflections. Bravo to editor Alan Bell for including Thom Wolf's fine work in your book.
